TwonkyMediaServer 5.0.55 (ReadyNAS version 1.5) available on Netgear forum
Edit 1 (March 2nd):
Note that TMS have now released 5.0.55 and also instructions on how to build custom trees. That said, there are still big problems putting it onto a ReadyNAS (see posts starting on page 3) and the tree info is really only suited to technically minded people at the moment. Once TMS5.0.55 is fixed, I'll write and post a trial tree on this forum.

Edit 2 (March 8th):
super-poussin (Netgear forum) has just created a ReadyNAS version of TMS5.0.55 and I'm trying it now. See page 3 (of this post, not The Sun newspaper) for full details. This version of TMS 5.0.55 is now Netgear addon version 1.5 and not the version called 5.0.55 which is available on the PV site (which causes the NAS to lock up by filling the NAS OS partition with its cache files)
Smile

Note: TMS4 must be removed first (or both will run) and I've yet to sort the customised music tree files out (the included one will not work well with KinskyPDA unless you only have a few albums)

Hi

Twonky TMS4.4.11 works well and I'd recommend it but TMS5.0.46 is not any use in its current state of development

It's just been announced that TMS5.0.46 for many NAS devices has been released and can be found here but read the below before rushing out and trying it!

There is an XML file needed to provide the customisation of the music tree; it's not out yet and it's something most users here will need before upgrading to this latest version. It might be that the .conf file can be modified and that this will apply the settings but I suspect that it won't work; if it did, you'd think upgrading would import the settings and I've heard nothing on the forum nor from Twonky to indicate that it does. I'll try this latest version out on my 'testbed' ReadyNAS and see if I can get the tree going then report back.

Again, the above is just my assumption, but I'm now on the list to be informed of beta and other updates as and when they appear, so I will check out TMS5 and update this post as soon as the music tree xml file is available.

RE: TwonkyMedia server 5.0.46 for NAS but no music tree yet!
Hi

Had it working briefly but it was erratic and didn't display any music on either the web GUI or the Linn GUI. Tried a reboot and TMS now seems to have broken itself completely; it is no longer accessable. Seems also to have upset ReadyNAS Frontview in that I can no longer reboot the NAS from Frontview (I have to use the switch). I'll remove TMS5 it and see if that fixes things.

I'll park TM5 for now and look again at a later date.

RE: TwonkyMedia server 5.0.46 for NAS but no music tree yet!
Removed it and restarted the NAS manually; now it's doing a rescan so it's definitely not removed! I'll continue this tomorrow. Smile

Update: It's actually broken the NAS (no access via Frontview) so I'll probably have to firmware rebuild it (just as well it's a test-bed NAS and not my main one).

RE: TwonkyMedia server 5.0.46 for NAS but no music tree yet!
As they say in that bloody-awful Star Trek tune: 'It's worse than that, it's dead Jim, dead Jim, dead Jim!' Smile

No Frontview so I had to enable root (SSH) access and then use [rm twonkymedia.conf] (from /etc), then [rm -R twonkyvision] (from /usr/share) then do a firmware rebuild (reboot with the reset switch held for 5 seconds). I then had to install TMS4.4.11 and use SSH to replace the twonkymedia.conf to get it back where I started!!

Just as well is was a test NAS as opposed to a live 'un eh?

RE: TwonkyMedia server 5.0.46 for NAS but no music tree yet!
Once again... BriainWink

I think there are quite a few of us really appreciating what you do and that you always keep us informedSmile I am at least glad I didn't try this one!!!

Having succesfully updated to 4.4.11, after having read your post, I realized that I was missing a few covers that I had before 4.4.11. In my attempt to get them back (t)wankey totally screwed up on the Duo(I had it do so on the mac before, but that was no big problem, only use it for fun) and refused to show Artist in any way and lots of WYZ's. But fortunately Readynas stuff is so wellbehaved that ticking (t)wankey off in Streaming Services and THEN reinstalling 4.4.11 solved the problem. It leaves some bitchy prefs-files though that (t)wankey!!!

I now also have to thank you for your lesson in which characters not to use in order to show coverart(No ampersands or apostrophes in the directory name)from Twonky forum. I didn't have this problem before 4.4.11 screwed up, only the jpeg2000 issue but now I can only get the missing coverart back by removing the characters you have mentioned from the folders and the filenames, not just from the metadata!

I take it that the way you solved the TM5 problem is only for PC users? You use lots of expressions I haven't stumbled over yet but then you did post in the Development forumCool

Sorry for being ignorant but did language in highschool and now only mess up photoshop stuffBig Grin

RE: TwonkyMedia server 5.0.46 for NAS but no music tree yet!
Hi Tom

All the TMS tests I'm doing are for TMS on a Netgear ReadyNAS (which is a Linux box).

It's odd as I could see the Twonky web page on http://my.nas.ip.address:8100 (the green one where you can select to browse the content or go to the config pages) but couldn't see the TM setup page or the ReadyNAS Frontview page (the NAS setup page itself). I can't believe that so much could have gone wrong with it so will try the whole process again; it is a test NAS!

Sorry about the unexplained terms; I did put them in without descriptions what with this being the development area. What the above post means is that I had to log into the root of the NAS using a terminal window on my PC (I used PuTTY) and use the Linux command rm (remove) to delete the Twonky config file which is located in a directory called /etc and then use rm -R (remove recursive) to delete the directory containing the Twonky files (located in /usr/share). These locations are the Linux paths; in windows, /usr/share would look like c:\usr\share

There is an option to reinstall the NAS firmware (its operating system) by booting and holding in the reset button for 5 seconds. There's another option to completely wipe everything (including all data) and fully rebuild the firmware (by holding the button in for 30 seconds) which is why I don't care about causing chaos; it's easy to fix it again.

Incidentally, I found TMS4.4.11 actually picked up a few more Folder.jpg’s than the previous versions. I now only have two which it can’t see and have resolved them by embedding the art into the FLAC files (for those two only).

Off to bust me test NAS again now Smile

RE: TwonkyMedia server 5.0.46 for NAS but no music tree yet!
Ha, I have it installed and currently doing a rescan. I performed a fresh installation (removing 4.4.11 first) but the web interface was really erratic and the server kept dropping out and restarting on the Linn GUI; also there was no music listed; also the web config pages were mostly inaccessible (got access about 1 in 5 times of trying).

I pointed the server to the flac files and selected music only (there's nothing else on the NAS anyway) and then changed the rescan time from -1 to 0. This solved the dropouts and the config pages are now reliably accessible.

I'll see how it works after the rescan but the default music tree is really basic and not much use to me.

I'll then try to write the music library config options manually into the config file and see if it works. I don’t hold out much hope that this will show the composer tags (which is the secondary reason why I’m trying all this) since the composer tags are not part of the default tree (and thus why would they have fixed them).

It'll be interesting to see what happens when you select albums (not currently an option in the default tree) and it tries to load all the art for the whole library (if it loads any that is). I'm hoping they've increased the 100 album limit which is the primary reason I'm trying all this.

Also noticed there's no albumartist option so that's not so good!

I've posted the basic findings on the Twonky site
