Klouts vs Chakra 6100
Thinking about moving from 4 Klouts to Chakra 6100+ 1 Klout to drive my Keltik in order to minimize space in my bedroom. Will Chakra 6100 outperform the Klout
In performance, what do you guys think ? TongueTongueTongue

Klouts and Keltiks play like they were made for each other.

What about your active cards?

Not much

I've moved from Klout to C2200 - big difference. So I would be very, very careful about mismatching amps.

Would only try before I buy.

I can't comment if x100 is better than Klout. Klout is 160W, whereas x100 is only 100W. C6100 likely to be much more refined in some respects, perhaps not in others.

I'd definitely recommend 2 x C4200.

Perhaps just have C6100 and tri-amp rather than have Klout. Might work if Klout worked rear bass driver less mismatch would be noticed.

I found 2200 was much better in the frequency extremes.

Salty-dog, I'm using the Keltik XO Box.
Or should I upgrade the Keltik XO Box to Klimax Keltik XO instead of
changing the amps ?

Thanks a lot for every comments, guys.

RE: Klouts vs Chakra 6100
Klout is a great amp but 6100 is better than Klout.
However, not as powerful so avoid using in on the bass!
NOTE, if you are intend to play really loud, you need 4 * 2200.

And best is to not mix amps but can be ok as an interim.
I suggest one of the following:
1. Keep 2 Klouts (bass), use 100W amps on the mid/tre (6100, 5100 or 4100 using only 4 channels)
2. get a 2200 or 4200 replacing the Klouts. (one box less)
3. option, get another 4200 (then use one amp driving each speaker)

1. Sell all Klouts, get a 6100 and run Keltik with just 6 channels.
2. option #1, get a 2200 or 4200 and put it on the bass
3. option #2, get another 4200 (then use one amp driving each speaker)
Or a mix between these alternatives, depending what 200W or 100W you can get.

With the chakra amps you going to get more details, increased musicality, tighter bass but not as much bass. (personally I prefer quality bass over quantity but I know some that miss the Klout bass. For me the Klout bass is a bit undefined)

RE: Klouts vs Chakra 6100
You need to try and get a demo on this one!

Imho Klouts blow the x100 amps out of the water, especially in the context of keltiks and going from quad to tri amp is going to loose a lot of power and control in the bass, I would think 2 4200s would be more appropriate and they ARE better than klouts, that said in terms of unburstable power esp current delivery the klout is still king .

It certainly helps that you have a tunebox as you can use any gain matched amps.

RE: Klouts vs Chakra 6100
Klouts are special in sound. My suggestion is
- don't give away the Klouts,
- add a x100 or x200 for the midrange and treble and listen yourself
- if you want the new sound, then sell the Klout, otherwise sell the x100 again.
(x100 and x200 shut down immediately, if the speakers need more power, while a transformer based Klout can handle this more easily!)
I owned Klout - then 5125, 4200 non dynamik and only now I'm happy with a Chakra Twin. (old speakers Nautilus 804 and now Danish DIY with Velodyne DD15 Sub)

RE: Klouts vs Chakra 6100
I would definitely keep the Klouts - the x100 series amps will certainly disappoint. You might want to consider Keltik active cards rather then the Keltik active box - would at least reduce your box count by one and is thought to be a sound quality improvement over the active box. Saying that the standfalone box does give you more options on the poweramps. The Keltik Klimax crossover is great but a serious amount of money.

RE: Klouts vs Chakra 6100
I would beware of thinking that the newer amps are better than Klouts in all respects. In my view, it is by no means a "night and day" comparison. It is fair to say that the newer amps are more < detailed | precise | whatever hi-fi word you choose >, but I have always felt that the Klouts remain pretty special machines, particularly when it comes to effortlessly driving big 'speakers. And Salty's comment, that Klouts and Keltiks are made for each other, is spot on. Think fish and chips (not nasty soggy ones but crisp und brown).

I would also beware of mixing Klouts and x100s, simply because they are not going to be equally "fast". (That's a bit of a hi-fi statement, but there you go.) Splitting between bass and mid / treble maybe worth trying but, whatever you do, you really should demo - at home - before taking the plunge. I would certainly recommend that you try to demo a pair of 4200s as well as the 6100 (with or without Klout on the rear bass).

Once you have listened to different combinations it is possible that you will find you prefer to stick with four Klouts. To some extent, the choice may depend on what type of music you listen to, and how loud.
