Love the curve at the back of the headshell top face and the way it integrates with the new angled flange at the rear pin collar. Cleverly takes away any feeling that it looks bulkier. Well done.

I was trying to make it a little more aesthetic, and shave off weight where it wasn't adding strength. Also added radii on the inside to add to rigidity.

With the standard counterweight, I notice the Akiva is only about 4mm from the back of the arm. I therefore wonder if the larger counterweight can be used with an Akiva, or is it specifically only for heavier cartridges. Thanks !

Joe

No the weight will be available as an optional extra. The standard weight will still ship with Ekos SE. Not sure on the Akiva, I haven't tried it yet, it was intended for heavier cartridges.

I think between say around 10/11 - 18g, but not sure at what point the really heavy carts start causing other problems. Sad

I have only listened to a few heavy cartridges, which we at the 12g mark, and found the new weight to make quite a big difference. Big Grin

The weight of my cartridge is 10.6 g so it's outside the range of the standard c/w, I hope this new one is not too heavy for it. I had expected a range started from 9g and upwards so all cartridge weights had been covered.

But of course it's possible to add some more force from the dial if the weight of the c/w is too heavy...........

This might be a dumb question, but can't you currently move the standard c/w closer to the pivot point and dial in less force on the dial?

Nope, not a dumb question and some of us have indeed been doing this for a while, so as to keep the counterweight nearer the pivot point. Just set it up with a good stylus balance. Do always leave a little (say 0.5g) force on the rotary dial though.

The headshell has been made a little longer (2mm) to make it easier to fit cartridges.

Hi David, is the armtube 2mm shorter then? Otherwise is the geometry of the arm in any other way changed?

P.S.: the new headshell looks quite nicer and more stilish indeed!

I do that, Elbow. I dial in at 0.5 g to get the c/w closer to the pivot. Still I want a heavier c/w to get it even closer to the pivot to further reduce the moment of inertia.
