Is the August issue out already? Is it possible to read it online for a fee?

RE: Akurate system review in August HFW
It arrived through my door yesterday...... I think you can subscribe for an online version now.
They have been loooking to review the Akurate range for a few months now, and explain why it has taken time to get Linn to allow them to review it.........
The power amp seems to come off as the weakest part.

Just read it - very odd review - there appears to be no listening tests of the system - at least none actually described.

RE: Akurate system review in August HFW
I gave up with Hi-Fi mags/reviews when I switched to Linn. Do you doubt your ears? I also gave up after I heard that it was also common knowledge in the industry some years ago that one British company used to make kit specifically for Hi-Fi mags that got tremendous reviews. The kit was not the same that was sold to the general public under the same name/number. The company no longer exists and I hope that kind of thing no longer happens.
I also gave up on music reviews after I read a review of Genesis at the Rainbow theatre in London where the writer slagged off the concert. Some months later Genesis released Second's Out, a live recording from the same tour. The same "music critic" then wrote a brilliant review of the album saying that the show at the Rainbow had been one of the best shows he had seen!!!
One of the best music recommendations I get is off the music forum by reading what others are listening to (thanks Mudcrutch and others).

RE: Akurate system review in August HFW
I remember when we had a British Motor Cycle industry and the first Japanese bikes were coming into the country, we learnt later on that the Magazines were told that if they gave bad reviews to the Brits and overly good reviews to the Japanese they would get no bikes for review.

I remember one quote from the British Press, fed by the Industry "..who would ever want an electric start on a bike.." the answer of course was EVERYONE.

By by British Motorcycle Industry.

Thankfully the HiFi buying public, at the higher end at least, have a group of Dealers (certainly in the UK) that don't force the products with the biggest margins or commission. My friendly Dealer has never tried to do anything other than give me the opportunity to Just Listen and make my own mind up.
