RE: Akurate amp questions
Nah, I suspect that I'll be putting it back to the way it was; I think that particular mix doesn't quite work (I can't quite put my finger on why it's not right, it just isn't)! I reckon it might with another Chakra amp, but I don't think it's working with a 2250.
I'm basing all this on the TV voices sounding just a fraction too cold and hard (Sky box -> Toslink of MDSI) - that's key as that's the system's primary function - so I'll play a few DS tunes tomorrow (when neighbours are out) and test it as a HiFi system (in case the current setup is simply showing up the poor quality of the TV sound and I'm just not used to hearing it), but I reckon I already know the answer (and it's as Whizz suggested; mixing amp types maybe doesn't work).

RE: Akurate amp questions
Hi
Well I didn't like it with the TV, and I didn't like it with music, so I've just changed back to using only the 2250 and it is miles better (bit of a fiddle as I had to solder 2 K20's into one set of BFA plugs, and they were short lengths which are under the floor). Driving the super-tweeter with the MDSI amp (and everything else with the 2250/D) gave a strange effect. It was very slightly more sibilant (as though the MDSI's PA gain was fractionally higher than the 2250) but it sounded like a cheap speaker in that you felt you were hearing that parts of the voices was coming from two different units; it sounded almost like I'd introduced a time delay between the two units. It was wrong to the extent that I thought I'd done something fundamentally daft (like wiring them out of phase WRT the other 3K Array units) but everything checked out okay. It looks like there's a subtle difference between the MDS-I amp stage and 2250 amp which means they just don't mix well when driving parts if a 3K Array (so well said Whizz). The good side of all this is that I now have the 212's tri-wired (with K20) by using one pair for bass, one pair for mid and the third pair is feeding both HF units (I've stripped the cable 100 back from the existing plugs, and without cutting it, I've terminated extra plugs at the fold, so no need for treble<->supatweet links at the back of the 212). It makes quite a big difference to the character of the 212's - they sound entirely different - so that is quite interesting. Anyhos, all's well that ends well, and what's even better, it's nearing beer o' clock and there's a Becks chilling in the fridge (with my name on it). ![]() Bri |

Akurate amp questions
Maybe you can try the whole 3k with mdsi and just the woofers with the 2250? That would be equivalent to what I'd try.
