How Do I Get Off The Treadmill? Help!
When is the sound quality good enough? When is an Audiophiles work ever done?
Current sound quality: Extremely Impressive, Bank Account: Not So Much Earlier in 2011, I purchased an Akurate DS/1. I had an Aktiv Linn surround system based on Ninkas, Trikans and Katans. It sounded very good, but then the trouble started. ![]() Since joining the Linn Forum last August, I have bought new Majik Isobariks, 112's centre channel speaker, 109's surround speakers, 9 pairs of Linn Silvers, 7 Shunyata power cords, more K400 speaker wire, Shunyata Hydra 4(now sold), 2 Dynamik 6100 Linn power amps, complete set of Aktiv cards for the new speakers, Shunyata Hydra Talos, acoustic room treatments such as curtains, bass traps, studio monitor isolators, Auralex Sub-dudes, Nordost QV2 and many other tweaks. I also sport a QNAP NAS I spend many hours a week on the Linn Forum, talk and email my Linn buddies, Travel to other Linn owners homes to hear their system, and try to help improve their systems and mine. My life has been consumed by my music and Linn, not that there is anything wrong with that. ![]() Is there an Audioholics Help Group?
Fully Aktiv MIso's, 112 Centre, 109 Surrounds, Classe SSP-800, Akurate DS/1, 2 X Majik 6100's(D) & 5100(D), Linn Silvers/K400, OPPO 105 Tweaks: Shunyata Hydra Talos, Shunyata Zitron Cobra & Sidewinder VTX pwr cords, SR Z1, Nordost QV2, Aurelex Bass traps & Sub-Dudes |

Speaking from personal experience - get made redundant when you're post prime employment age (ie anything under 35.) and your job applications total over 200.
A choice between food and hifi focusses the mind somewhat! KDS1-D / LP12SE / Akiva (Kandid in waiting) KK1-D / RipNAS / Spotify / Kinsky / iPad 2 x Akurate 3200-D / Aktiv Espeks |

Go find a different forum for a hobby that has less impact on your pocket. Cross-stitch perhaps? You can do that and listen to your excellent music system. ;-) p.s. we'll miss your excellent contribution and will be much worse off, but don't feel too guilty about that. RE: How Do I Get Off The Treadmill? Help!
Simple solution - buy a fully loaded Klimax solution which takes you to the brink of bankruptcy. There is really nothing you can do after that
![]() Seriously though (yeah right), I had a bit of a hiatus with upgrades to the Linn system. Looking back, I think the main reason I didn't feel the urge to upgrade was I really didn't know how I can get an upgrade at a reasonable cost. But here is what I think really helps - go on a vacation of your dreams! You will easily blow away 5-6K on a 2-week trip down under for instance. A trip like that does many good things - you get to see a very different part of the world, you build great memories and most importantly you come back and realize you can't spend much money on your audio system and in fact, you don't really feel like it. klimax renew ds |

RE: How Do I Get Off The Treadmill? Help!
You have become part of the 6th Dimension.
There is no escape..there is no antidote Well there is ONE hope. Become a Lumberjack. Plus points are general remoteness. Not even electricity half the time. Short life span so money goes further Large pay, with nothing to spend money on, means if you do survive you can spend it all on..........er sorry forget that. You get to sing funny songs: BARBER: I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay. I sleep all night and I work all day. MOUNTIES: He's a lumberjack, and he's okay. He sleeps all night and he works all day. BARBER: I cut down trees. I eat my lunch. I go to the lavatory. On Wednesdays I go shoppin' And have buttered scones for tea. MOUNTIES: He cuts down trees. He eats his lunch. He goes to the lavatory. On Wednesdays he goes shoppin' And has buttered scones for tea. He's a lumberjack, and he's okay. He sleeps all night and he works all day. BARBER: I cut down trees. I skip and jump. I like to press wild flowers. I put on women's clothing And hang around in bars. MOUNTIES: He cuts down trees. He skips and jumps. He likes to press wild flowers. He puts on women's clothing And hangs around in bars?! He's a lumberjack, and he's okay. He sleeps all night and he works all day. BARBER: I cut down trees. I wear high heels, Suspendies, and a bra. I wish I'd been a girlie, Just like my dear Papa. MOUNTIES: He cuts down trees. He wears high heels, Suspendies, and a bra?! [talking] What's this? Wants to be a girlie?! Oh, My! And I thought you were so rugged! Poofter! [singing] He's a lumberjack, and he's okay. He sleeps all night and he works all day. He's a lumberjack, and he's okaaaaay. He sleeps all night and he works all day. RE: How Do I Get Off The Treadmill? Help!
As people have said, finance plays a part, I am a cash buyer now, no more buying on credit cards and I don't think I will ever return to that.
Apart from that though, there came a moment where the SQ reached a certain threshold where I could just naturally and easily listen the the music and I realised that anything further is 'ambition' not any sort of musical necessity. And, shhhh, it wasn't a Linn product that took the system over the finishing line. Future purchases, for the foreseeable, will be around the LP12, not preamp, amps or speakers. Linn: LP12/Cirkus/Tramp2/MOSE/Khan/Nima/Adikt, 3x C6100, M140 aktiv, M112 aktiv, 2x M109 aktiv. Also: Marantz AV7005 pre/pro, BK Monolith DF sub, BDP-S480 Blu Ray, EP35 HD-DVD, Sky HD, HTPC, JVC DLA-X3 3D projector, Beamax 84" fixed screen, 2 cheapo rear speakers. |

RE: How Do I Get Off The Treadmill? Help!
Here´s a simple 10-step plan
1. Sell the whole Linn lot. 2. Buy a Tivoli Model 1 and put it in your listening room. 3. Go with what´s left to the casino. 4. Put all on 4x red, then 3x black. 5. Now, either you should be loaded or broke. If broke, go home and listen to your Tivoli. Advance to step 10. In case of loaded, pursuit to step 6. 6. This is the tricky part. Stay away from all internet connections for a week. Just play music on the Tivoli. 7. Book an organized trip like this 8. After returning home, see what comes to mind first when putting the Tivoli on. 9. If it´s a Linn system, go out, buy the full Klimax lot and be done with. 10. In case you start thinking of upgrading the Tivoli, I am afraid there ain´t no cure.... |

RE: How Do I Get Off The Treadmill? Help!
In answer to your original question, when musicians want to listen to your system you've got something worth keeping.
Klimax DS/1/D, Klimax Kontrol/1/D, ATC SCM50SL AT, jRiver Media Center v17 ![]() Salty Dog system RenewDS, Karin, Klout, Tukans and of course jRiver. |
