242 spikes
Does anyone know what is the size of the 242 spikes? And more specifically, what thread do they use?
I am thinking about ordering an aluminium slab, and getting 242 spikes for it, but from memory (and Briain's description) they are: 1) bigger than standard M8 spikes 2) have some fine thread (possibly non-metric). Thanks for any help. ADS1/D > A350A . Simples/1 |

RE: 242 spikes
budhudson should know, as he has custom spikes on his 242 according to these pics:
http://forums.linn.co.uk/bb/showthread.p...#pid147086 but I guess he will no longer answer PM, as he said he's leaving the forums. Try sending him a mail, maybe you're lucky. If not, I'm sure Philbo can give you the answer MDSM > C4200/D > M140 (bi-amped; upgrade stands) |

RE: 242 spikes
Hi
Being an ex-punk rocker, I wear one Klimax spike through my ear lobe and another through my nose, so having just measured them, I can see that the threaded stud part is about 12 mm diameter (thread peak to peak), but it's nothing like a standard thread for a normal stud of that diameter, so it's likely to be a metric fine thread (I'm not sure if there are several species of metric fine threads). I have limited resources here to measure it all accurately, but the stud's physical diameter looks more like that of an M12 stud, but the thread pitch (i.e. the space between the threads) looks to be the same as what you'd find on an M8 stud (they mesh when you put them side by side). Looking up the M8 thread pitch shows it as being 1.25 mm, and then looking here for a 12mm outside diameter stud with 1.25 mm thread pitch indicates that Linn could well be using an 'ISO metric fine 12 x 1.25' thread for the Akurate/Klimax spikes, but it would be better if someone can confirm that (either Linn, or someone who has a set of gauges or a known nut of that thread to check it against). RE: 242 spikes
Any Yin?
I am in the middle of preparing Autocad drawing for the CNC machines, and that spike size/thread type becomes quite urgent thing ... Appreciate any help folks! ADS1/D > A350A . Simples/1 |

RE: 242 spikes
I have just measured mine using a pitch gague and reckon its an M12 x 1.50 thread.

RE: 242 spikes
Thanks a lot for that Bruce! So that would mean it's M12 Fine, or M12 M taper thread. Hopefully someone from Linn could confirm that?

I am in engineering and it won't be a taper thread. These are usually used for threaded pipe fittings and are usually of the BSPT variety. (British Standard Pipe Thread Tapered) If the thread is M12 fine then def a parallel thread. A taper thread would bind and not give infinite adjuatment. RE: 242 spikes
Yup M12 x 1.50 is fine metric, and they are straight.
