Akurate on trial...
After 10 years of happy Ikemi ownership I'm collecting an ex-dem new model Akurate DS tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing just what differences I can expect through my system, and whether the performance leap will be as much as I'm led to believe it will be.

The Good: music at my fingertips, better performance, radio on demand

The Bad: more complicated than 'open' then 'play', the joy of network setup

The Ugly: the need to upgrade my amps and speakers...!!??

Any thoughts...?

The Good: music at my fingertips, better performance, radio on demand - you can't beat it!

The Bad: more complicated than 'open' then 'play', the joy of network setup - just wait till you get used to to it. Wink

The Ugly: the need to upgrade my amps and speakers...!!?? - No comment. Rolleyes

Any thoughts...? -Enjoy your new acquisition. Try an go back to the Ikemi after a few weeks.

And, if you ask me, it's easier than "open, then play".
But it requirers that everything is set up properly initially.

RE: Akurate on trial...
Well, I kept it! Really clean, natural sound, and the network setup was very straightforward. My wife is sold on the ability to get great radio (especially radio 4 - which has never sounded so good!), and my kids love it because they can Airplay their iPods onto it. The only problem is that the difference between my 320kbps CD rips via iTunes (on my iMac) and the Lossless rips is very very VERY obvious, so I'm doing them all again with XLD. I don't have a HUGE collection by some standards (around 600) but hope this is the last time I'll ever need to do it!

In fact, my wife likes it so much, I've got the green light to replace the Keilidhs for MIsos AND a 4200 to drive them!

I'm still sad to see my Ikemi languishing on a certain auction site - it has served me well the last ten years, but I now see it is time to move on. I fear the LK140s and Keilidhs may be heading in the same direction...
