Am upgrding my front left, right and center speakers to Akurate 242s and 225. I have in the current 5.1 system to be upgraded a Sizmik subwoofer and Katans for the rear left and right.
What are your opinions on whether it would be worth upgrading from a Sizmik to Akuarte 226 for active subwoofer? What is your opinion on whether it would be worth upgrading from the Katans to Akuarte 212s for rear channels?? Everything is currenty and will be aktiv amplification. |

Speaker Upgrades: Akurate 226 vs. Sizmik; Katans to Akurate
Sounds like a great system, will you have 242's at the front?
I have 212's as my rear speakers and they are great but if you want to save some money for movie duties katans would do a great job for a lot less. Most movie use rear channel for atmospherics like cloud noise or for special effects. Your front and centre will have to work harder for movies. I've carried this thinking with my current setup with klimax 350's and centre up front but 212's at back. Andrew Music Room: AK(D), RDS(D) RA balanced mains unit 50va, KCT, M2100 (rear), 350p k400, 345, 340, 212 (rear). Hutter Rack Family Room: Movie Classik(D), ADS(D), 4xNinka, Sizmik, Trikan. Garden: B&W WM5 (weather proof) Business: SekritDS, 4x Katan (+two Kef Eggs). My name is Andrew.. I'm an addikt. |

I don't have a 5.1 system but was running activated Katans driven by LK85 and LK140 together with two sizmiks, than moved to activated 212 driven by two 4200 and still combined with two sizmiks; to be honest: for rear speakers I would go for activated Katans; from a 2.X point of view: adding a second sub improves a lot (I know, that does no apply to 5.1); in the meantime I moved to Komri - forget about any subs! :-) |

You could also consider inwall custom 2ks (the 106c). That's what I have for my centre and rears, and they sound great. Much better than the Tukans I had before. They do need three channels to go aktiv though (which is a pain as I buried 4 core cable in the wall when building the room!
)
Main System: Renew DS > Exotik+DA/D > A2200/D > 242s (mk2) & A3200/D > 106c, 104c's (using Linn Silvers & K400, on Hutter rack) Dining Room: Sneaky DS > Majik 109s (using "K200") Bedroom: Majik DS > Tivoli Radio Model 3 + Companion Speaker |

Still would like to hear what, if any, differences there are between the Sizmik and the Akurate 226 as an active subwoofer.
