RE: okki nokki
Michael Fremer just reviewed this ultrasonic record cleaner from Germany in the June issue of Stereophile. Completely plug and play-the record gets dropped in vertically and both sides are automatically cleaned ultrasonically in six minutes. It worked so well he purchased the review unit. Expensive however it looks completely hassle free. Drop the record in, walk away, and return in 6 minutes.

RE: okki nokki
I saw that, but I don't like the fact the record is dried with a fan only...

RE: okki nokki
Having used both a MOTH and an Okki Nokki, I would say that the Okki Nokki is quieter, and dries the record better than the MOTH.

(That being said, the MOTH was made from a kit by a numpty ie ME and fell apart after a few years use [Image: icon_redface.gif])

RE: okki nokki
Yes, Peter, correct, I own a Hannl Micro since a long time. It is a nice machine and all you need if you are not cleaning records as a professional service, that means 10 hours a day. The cleaning is done as perfect as with the more developed Hannl Machines. The Hannl guys told me from the start, that their most important invention is the rotation brush. I did not believe this until I had a chance to try one for a couple of days at home - and what shall I say? I didn't let it go again and re-washed all of my LPs, whether treated by a Monk or a Lori or my own Hannl before. My advice is to get the cheapest Hannl machine and save for this brush.
As I have the habit to record what I do (24/192 RME), anyone interested may listen to the results, including normal brush vs. rot. brush. Just drop me a pm. Makes sense to listen to with a LinnDS - otherwise not much worth.
As washing records is so time consuming, I'd personally favour to do it best right from the start. And compared to a Linn PSU, the rot. brush is not expensive - while providing at least as much additional fun.

I'm trying to understand what is this rotating brush exactly. To say the Hannl website is less than helpful would be an understatement.

RE: okki nokki
Well, so what makes the most difference:

- using a rotating brush?
- using a multi-step process with a dedicated brush for each?

Seems like you can't do both with the Hannl, though I guess you could dedicate the rotating brush for one of the stages.

RE: okki nokki
A friend of mine has been using an okki nokki for afew years now. He's been impressed with it and had no problems with.He has tried various fluids and found the okki nokki fluid to be very good.

I recently bought a VPI 16.5 RCM (£640).I am impressed with the build quality and convenience of the machine.I have to say I haven't been too impressed with the results. There has been an improvement but not to the extent I was hoping for.Maybe I had unrealistic expectations. It has totally removed static though,so no sticky matt anymoreSmile.
As I said I've only had it afew weeks and still experimenting with different fluids.

What I would suggest is taking acouple of records into a shop that runs a record cleaning service and see what you think of the results.Maybe ask your dealer for a demo of the one he has in the shop. Also have alook on Youtube. There are loads of videos of various machines on there. It might give you a better idea of what each machine does.

The one thing that the okki nokki has over the VPI 16.5 is that it's bi-directional.Something that some people swear by.For me I found the VPI to be quieter and just that little bit easier to use.

With rcm's you are basically paying for convenice and how quite it is.If I had the cash I would go for one of the Loricraft models. They start from around £1500.

Good luck Smile

Yes, well this was broadly my opinion Klaus, having seen several of the units in operation at the Hi End Show. But the better build quality, more control and quieter operation, along with the auto feed of cleaning fluid seemed like a great idea too. Especially since we are cleaning so many records here ATM and our Moth is so noisey and gets hot, so after about 10 discs I'm often shouting to Wayne... "Give it a rest mate!!" Big Grin

So, I'm really looking forward to using the much quieter cleaner (and Wayne too of course!) - The Mera.

You say the brush is really good - Much better than without? - This is excellent to hear from an existing end user, as so far, I have only seen them in operation as I said.... But I was well impressed, beautifully built too - Cool

So I'm trying the cheaper one, initially with no rotating brush... But I can add it on later of course, and the Mera will have everything and I look forward to using it and sampling the results!

Kind regards,

Peter
