Renew available for Akurate

RE: Renew available for Akurate
Do you think a Renew ADS/0 will fetch much more than $2400, Thomas? I haven't looked at s/h prices for MDS & ADS, but am not sure there'd be sufficient demand for ARDS to expect much profit, if any, after selling fees, etc... I could be wrong, of course, but I think the value of the Renew package vs. just buying a used ADS/1 & keeping the ADS/0, is in keeping matching cases (if that matters to you) & the 5 year warranties. As an ADS/0 owner, I can see $2400 for the upgrade board as a good deal, but can think of other ways to spend $4800 Wink

RE: Renew available for Akurate
Yes, the price of the upgrade board is £1,500. The renew player takes the price to £3K (dealer web page price) so it costs £1.5K for a renew AK. I am not confident it would sell for £1.5K as AD(0)s have sold for £1.7 to £2.0 K.

A Renew Klimax sells for £3.5K and is not too far behind a Klimax DS/0 but a renew AK at a few hundred less than a used AK/S 0.....

I saw an ADS/0/D in mint condition listed for slightly over $3000 USD last month. I am guessing that a Renew ADS would fetch no more than $2500 which would be breaking even (roughly)

The Klimax RDS is a different beast in that a KDS cost many times more than the cost of the RDS, so it was possible break even with the entire cost of the upgrade.

It looks to me like this Akurate Renew deal is worthwhile only if you are going to keep the Renew or sell it at cost to someone as a favour.

RE: Renew available for Akurate
I have seen second hand ADS/1 for £2999 so this deal only looks good for an ADS/0 owner that wants to upgrade and/or wants a second room system. Don't see any cross funding opportunity from reselling the Akurate Renew.

I don't like the fact the Akurate Renew case looks very much like the Klimax Renew case.

RE: Renew available for Akurate
Personally, I think it's a shame that Linn didn't label them "Klimax Renew DS" and "Akurate Renew DS".

Main System: Renew DS > Exotik+DA/D > A2200/D > 242s (mk2)
& A3200/D > 106c, 104c's (using Linn Silvers & K400, on Hutter rack)

Dining Room: Sneaky DS > Majik 109s (using "K200")
Bedroom: Majik DS > Tivoli Radio Model 3 + Companion Speaker

RE: Renew available for Akurate
Hi,

Can someone tell me if there is a difference in sound between Akurate ds/0 and ds/1?
From what I've read, the bass, details and soundstage of the new Akurate are better then the ds/0, but what about the sound...is it warmer in the midds (voices and piano) or is it still a bit 'digital'?

Regards,

Bambino

Renew available for Akurate
The new ADS sounds and precision is much closer to the old KDS/ D than to the old ADS/D. The klimax RDS and ADS/1 are closed to each other both the have different pro and cons. But I prefer the design of the RDS.

RE: Renew available for Akurate
To my easr the ADS/1 was way better than the ADS/0 and the MDS (the latter 2 sounding almost alike IMHO). It did seem somehow a little brighter though - perhaps more shouty if you like. That said, the detail, bass, imaging etc. was way better than the previous models.

When I first heard an RDS I was sceptical - how could anything sound better than my ADS/1? Well the Renew did - and significantly so. SO much more music flow and gone were the harsh notes and zingy shouting.

For me the ADS-ADS/1 and ADS/1-Renew were the biggest steps I heard. Not heard a KDS/1 (luckily!).
