Majik DS and permanent buzz
Hello all,

I'm living in France and am a new Majik DS owner. Smile

Even if I'm really happy with this new component, it brought an non desired effect that I couldn't succeed to cancel.Sad

When I connect the Majik DS to the main power it immediately causes a permanent buzz (meaning noise like a ttzzzzzz) in my system.
The volume of the noise increases with the setting of volume (high volume setting = high noise).

I already reduced the system to the minimal components (DS+pre amp+power amp) in order to make sure the noise is not caused by another component. The same noise immediately appears as soon as the DS is connected to the main power (well understood that it is also connected to the preamp by its audio cables).

My system is composed as follows:

Majik DS -> Ayre K5x -> Goldmund SR2 -> Focus Audio FS688

I already tried all combinations of components being connected to ground or not (ex. only power amp connected to ground) and it changed nothing.

Did somebody face the same issue?

It's annoying to have finally reached to have the expected sound quality and easiness of use and to create a new problem.
I would really like to solve this issue instead of changing my Majik DS that provides the sound I was looking for.

Thanks in advance to all for your support.

Regards,

RE: Majik DS and permanent buzz
Some possible reasons that come to mind:

There is a ground loop interuption happening, between components, if they are plugged into different circuits. So, for example the amplifier is plugged into one wall outlet in one circuit, and the DS is plugged into another circuit. Try plugging everything into the same circuit.

There is an inteference between your components, which is causing the buzzing. Try plugging your components into different wall plugs of the same circuit. Your DS may be plugged into a circuit that has an interferring appliance, such as a TV, washing machine or refrigerator for instance. An AC noise sniffer would be helpful. A power bar or power conditioner which filters the power between receptacles will help prevent this.

Perhaps one of the interconnect cables you are using for the DS are defective. It may also be that the interconnects are not fully inserted into the RCA connectors, at both ends.

Less likely, the Majik DS is defective.

You may be playing the track from Rimsky-Korsakov, "The Flight of the Bumblebee" Sorry, I could not resist Tongue

RE: Majik DS and permanent buzz
Hello,

thanks to all for the reply. I will try to answer the questions in the right order.

My Majik DS is a second hand. Therefore, I cannot ask the reseller.

Unfortunately I have no headphone connector on my system. Neither the DS nor the pre-amp or the power amp have one.

Usually all components are plugged using a multiple bar (don't know it it's the good wordSad). It happens when its connected this way.
I tried to connect the components to different sockets and it happens also.
I changed the interconnects and it continuous to buzz.
I removed also all other components as the TV from the wall sockets for test and it continuous to buzz.

I didn't try a filter! I hesitate to by one without knowing if it will solve the issue.

Sounds really strange this problem I'm facing.

Regards,

If you have cable TV distribution, try to disconnect the antenna câble for a try.

RE: Majik DS and permanent buzz
You could try using different brands of interconnects if you haven't already; when I was using Van De Hul it introduced quite a noticeable buzz. Linn Silvers solved the problem. Also separating speaker cables from power cables made a small difference.

RE: Majik DS and permanent buzz
Try plugging it into your preamp on a different input. I plugged in an LP12 last year, and there was a buzzing just like what you have. My Linn dealer came over, for I had a new Akurate premap. We could not find the reason for it here, so he took it home to test it. There were no problems at his place. We reinstalled it here, and it did it again. We then unhooked every source again and re-attached them. The same result. We then plugged the LP12 into a different input source and presto, no buzzing. This might work for you too. For some reason, the LP12 did not like to be plugged in beside the FM Tuner. Bon chance,

Victrola 1922 Floor model.

RE: Majik DS and permanent buzz
You can also try plugging the DS directly into the power amp to see if the buzz is still there. I would suggest not playing any music though unless you have enabled the volume control on the DS and set it to a lower level.
