First Linn System
Hi all,

I am thinking about a Linn system for my study, it's quite a small room, 9' x 9', solid brick walls, I currently have a Naim system as my main setup, but thought I would have a play with some Linn kit, what would you guys suggest, I understand there's an "all in one" type affair with the need just to add speakers, if that's correct, can someone tell me what it's called and if it's any good.

If I went for something like that, is there any upgrade path? I am looking to buy S/H can anyone recommend where I should be looking, sorry to ask so many questions, thanks.

Kind regards
Jo

RE: First Linn System
Hi Jo,

The all in one unit that you refer to is the Majik DSM (previously Majik DS-I). You can just add a pair of speakers to this. Alternatively the latest Linn Kiko system, complete with Aktiv speakers would work perfectly in such a space.

RE: First Linn System
Budget?

The Kiko might be a good fit for that room, but there is no upgrade path and since it was just announced, getting it S/H would be unlikely. The new Majik DSM has HDMI inputs and is also going to be hard to find S/H. However, the older Majik DSI (does not have HDMI) should be available S/H or through a dealer demo. This will give you a DS as source, a preamp with lots of inputs and an amplifier that will comfortably drive most bookshelf speakers.

Another option is the cheaper Sneaky DS, but the amp in that is not as powerful as the one in the Majik DSI.

RE: First Linn System
The Kiko system is awesome straight out of the box. Its performance cannot be improved. It's so new and so good I very much doubt it will yet be available on the S/H market. The Majik DS-I or DSM can easily be upgraded through the addition of a power amplifier(s). For example Majik DSM + Majik 4100 + Majik 109 loudspeakers = full aktiv linn system

RE: First Linn System
There is also the old Classik Music - plays CD amd FM/AM, just add speakers.

You can also add external power amps, and other sources, so it turns into a preamp that can be upgraded to a better preamp.

Re: First Linn System
I have noticed there is what appears to be a new type DSM with HDMI on the bay, although there is no real confirmation of this. Think its 1900 or thats the starting bid.
Looks like it has the new remote, does this mean its the new type? Its 2k apologies.
