Davaar 9 Beta (4.9.1) TOSLINK Behaviour - Majik DSI
Was going to post this in the TOSLINK fault thread under the Troubleshooting forum but felt due to the beta nature of the release this was probably more appropriate.
Noticed Davaar 9 Beta 4.9.1 was available today so updated to check if the problem was actually fixed. Doesn't appear to be - in fact, it appears to have worsened. I tried changing back to Davaar 7 and then resetting the DSI back to factory defaults and no change. Symptoms are as below. I'm now receiving no audio at all (on Davaar 7 I just had distorted audio) from my TV and only audio in certain circumstances from the PS3 (when playing music ripped to the console -I don't receive audio at all from netflix or any of the menu sound effects). At a guess I'd say the fault appears to be dependent on the frequency/format of the received signal. This is a Majik DSI. Was this intended? I've noticed this entry in the beta software release description: "Fixed defect #3340: Digital inputs intermittently staying muted" However, on checking trac to see if it shed any light on the situation (or the TOSLINK fault in general) I've been unable to locate a ticket, closed or otherwise. Can provide more info if required. Update: Just reflashed to 4.5.3 and everything appears to be working perfectly. Viera and PS3 in all cases.. Tempted to reflash back to 4.9.1 and see what happens but I fancy popping netflix on so will probably wait until tomorrow.

RE: Davaar 9 Beta (4.9.1) TOSLINK Behaviour - Majik DSI
By the way: does Davaar 9 introduce any new features? Or is it only a "bug-fix" release ?

Change list (copied from http://products.linn.co.uk/VersionInfo/B...Info.xml):
Fixed defect #3340: Digital inputs intermittently staying muted Fixed defect #3337: First stage of up-sampling was being bypassed at certain sample rates in some products. Fixed defect #3339: Device crash on attempting to play BBC Listen Again content Fixed lip sync anomaly when AV latency equaled lip sync Beta version of Linn Konfig available for Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms. So looks like mainly bugfixes atm. Renew ADS -> MDSI -> A4200/D -> K110s |

RE: Davaar 9 Beta (4.9.1) TOSLINK Behaviour - Majik DSI
Hi Kubular
Thanks very much for your valuable feedback. It's unfortunate that the new beta software does not fix your TOSLINK issue. When we released the software we knew there was a small probability that this would happen. We could not reproduce the TOSLINK fault using the method described by users in the other forum thread. But we did manage to trigger a related issue, with identical symptoms, using a different method (repeatedly changing the source Delay Mode). We fixed this fault in the hope that it was the same issue, knowing that there was an outside chance that it was not. It's very difficult to fix a problem, and prove that it has been fixed, when it's not possible to reproduce the fault. The new beta software (4.91) definitely does fix a defect, it's just not the one that you are experiencing. We will investigate further and continue to search for a method of reproducing the defect you have reported. Thanks for you patience. eamonn PS - the TRAC system, that you have access to, only documents fault reports for our open source "off-device" software (Kinsky etc). It does not document "on device" defects. We have a separate internal TRAC system for this. Majik DS-I - Akurate 2200 - Akurate 212, Sneaky Music DS - Komponent 104 |

RE: Davaar 9 Beta (4.9.1) TOSLINK Behaviour - Majik DSI
Thanks eamonnb.
I haven't tested to ensure that the fault is still actually present to be honest... it seems suspicious to me that it didn't go away when I reset to factory defaults but did when I upgraded to Davaar 5. There is one other thing that I noticed yesterday that's a bit creepy/worrying also. This thing that comes up on the forums about the character of the sound changing when Linn state there haven't been any did present itself yesterday. After each firmware reflash yesterday I was testing the DSI to make sure it was still working - this included streaming music via the playlist. Each time I'd play the first few bars of Iron Man by Black Sabbath. When flashing between Davaar 7 and 9 the audio definitely became 'different'. First impression was definitely that it was worse but I didn't spend a lot of time mucking about with it. Sounded a bit 'brittle' and 'smudgy'. I don't believe I imagined it, but haven't attempted to reproduce yet. I'm slightly concerned - bearing in mind that the factory reset didn't fix the TOSLINK fault after upgrading to Davaar 9 that there's an issue with the way the firmware's being written to the device. The way firmware works is a bit over my head to investigate properly but if there's anything you'd like me to try out please let me know. Going back to the topic though, if it helps I'll provide a little more detail about my setup. Television: Panasonic Vierra TX-P46ST30B Playstation 3: CECHJ03 (this is an old model before the 'slimline' products) If the problem reproduces itself on upgrading the firmware again I'll investigate with other sources and let you know the results. Update: Upgraded to 4.9.1 - Audio from playlist plays fine - no apparent faults. TV set to BBC One HD, TV connected to TOSLINK3 - sound is audible from TV speaker but not from DSI when set to the appropriate input, Volume is 50. Started up playstation 3 (TOSLINK 1) - no 'intro' sound pre login, logged in, swished through the menu - no audible menu feedback (menu normally 'clicks' while scrolling). I have some music ripped to the Playstation's HDD as ATRAC, this plays however, received clicks and pops through the left channel. Reflashed to 4.5.3 via .zip archive stored locally: Playstation 3 menu audio now plays correctly - music from HDD does crackle, click and pop though (both channels - lots, this did not happen at all last night after upgrading from factory settings). TV audio seems fine. Music from playlist plays no issues. Update: Crackling and popping has vanished since I unplugged and reconnected the fibreoptic cable from the playstation under 4.5.3. Appears to be working fine again. Must have been a loose connection. The rest of this post should be unaffected. Renew ADS -> MDSI -> A4200/D -> K110s |

RE: Davaar 9 Beta (4.9.1) TOSLINK Behaviour - Majik DSI
Another update regarding Davaar 9 Beta and Toslink interaction...
On my Majik DSI, I am using a Toslink input for a Humax FreeSat box, but the output is completely silent using Davaar 9 (Beta). This same behaviour is replicated for all 3 Toslink inputs. Davaar 5 worked ok, and Davaar 7 produced intermittent crackling. (I am using the analogue input or re-flashing to earlier versions until the problem is resolved, so it is not a major issue for me). However, interestingly, if I Songcast the (slient) Majik signal whilst in Humax/Toslink mode to another room containing an Akurate DS, this same signal is picked up loud and clear by the Akurate. Hope this sheds a bit more light on the situation. Regards, Fred. |

RE: Davaar 9 Beta (4.9.1) TOSLINK Behaviour - Majik DSI
Hi
FYI I just tried the beta FW (4.9.1) on two MDS-I's - one is from December 2009 and the other is from December 2012 - and all is working well. The earlier one has one of its Toslink inputs in use (Sky+) and the later one has two of its Toslinks in use (Sky+ HD and WDTV Live Hub). Both emit the expected sorts of sounds upon receipt of the appropriate optical undulations. Bri |

Yes, fredbatch, sorry, didn't notice that was your first post, hi there!
And yes, just tested with Panasonic DMP-BD60 and can confirm that audio still isn't being output to speakers (I'm using an external power amp - Akurate 4200, internal amp disabled). I don't have any other DS devices so I haven't tested the songcast feature. Renew ADS -> MDSI -> A4200/D -> K110s |

RE: Davaar 9 Beta (4.9.1) TOSLINK Behaviour - Majik DSI
I've managed to cause a really strange change in behaviour... up until now Davaar 9 has appeared completely silent when set to the TV input. However, I' just tried listening using the headphone out and received a lot of strange 'noise'. Not sure of the correct way to describe it (it's a bit like having a mobile phone too close to an analogue radio). Both channels.
I switched to the playlist and the noise dissappeared. On switching back to TV the noise reappeared - and removing the headphones at this stage caused the noise to be output via speakers. I tried switching the DSI back to standby and then turnign back on - TV input remained silent. However, while I was writing this post the strange noise reappeared via speakers. Headphones not attatched. Would any information about my DSI be useful? Such as serial number or board types from Konfig? Renew ADS -> MDSI -> A4200/D -> K110s |
