The technologies involved

Hi, I am a student at university and am doing some research into the development of drum machines..
What i'd like to know is if anyone can tell me a bit about the background on the technologies used to create the original Linn LM-1.. eg, were the sounds sampled in or patched or what.. the more detail the better..
