Help with JRiver/Catwalk - please
I am somehow getting 500+ mostly .jmd files on my NAS. This just since starting to use JRiver Media Center 13 and Catwalk. This combo has so much going for it. If you can live with a PC wired to the network it beats everything else I've tried.

I would like to know if:

1) Do these files do anything worth keeping?
2) If they are not worthwhile how can I keep from creating more?
3) Is it possible to have this work without PC?

It is possible to run red book flac wirelessly, but at some point high resolution files experience dropouts.

4) Any cure for this?

Klimax DS/1/D, Klimax Kontrol/1/D, ATC SCM50SL AT, jRiver Media Center v17 Big Grin

Salty Dog system RenewDS, Karin, Klout, Tukans and of course jRiver.

Hello,

.jmd files are the Media Center database files and are essential for MC operation. However, I'm supprised that there are so many, and that they are located on your NAS rather than your PC hard drive.

The location of the .jmd files should be restricted to the Media Center "library location". You can set this from the File | Library | Library Manager... menu. Note this is different from the location of your music (FLAC) files. (This should be set in the "Auto Import Options...").

By default the MC Library will be in (Vista) "Users\username\AppData" folder, or (XP) "Documents and Settings\username\". I'd expect this to be on the hard drive of your PC (eg C:\) for quick access. Is this set to somewhere on your NAS? Maybe this is related to the Windows setting of your My Documents folder? Are your .jmd in only 1 or 2 folders, or more distributed?

I have ~90 .jmd files. Occationally, MC will take a backup (eg "curplaylist (2).jmd") . It will delete old copies of .jmd files. If MC does not have delete permissions, then the copies will start to stack up. Maybe this is occuring in your case? 500 seems like a lot.

For now, a wired solution or "n" grade wireless networking is probably necessary for reliable high def audio. Network optimisation is on my todo list.
