Rick Bike Wrote:For vinyl I also agree with Sylvian, Violator, and Talk Talk, though I need to get new copies of Laughing Stock and Spirit Of Eden as mine are well past their best.

I'd also say Peter Gabriel 3 & 4, Soul Mining by The The, first two Blue Nile albums, House Tornado by Throwing Muses, and The Score by The Fugees

If you're looking for a new copy of Laughing Stock I hope you have a lot of patience and money. I finally found a copy that was supposed to be mint, turned out to be VG++ with some warping issues that don't affect playback. It was $200 and when the seller offered me a refund I declined because it's got the quietest surfaces I've ever heard on this album. 1991 was a lousy year for vinyl. BTW, both Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock are analogue recordings and, unlike many albums from the late 80s and early 90s, sound far better on vinyl than on any of the CD incarnations I've heard. They also contain some of the most magnificent music ever recorded by anybody.

LP12 Black Ash, Radikal/D, Keel, Ekos II, Akiva>Urika, Akurate CD>Klimax Kontrol (Balanced Silvers)>Klimax Chakra Twin (Linn Silver RCA Interconnects throughout)>Grado RA1>Grado RS1>>LK400>Proac Response 3.8

Unfortunately well out of my price rangeSad I'll just keep trying second hand stores and charity shops in the remote hope that I strike lucky.

Seconded!

...like nothing before or since. They are records i never tire of.

There is a long (long!) running Radio show in the UK called "Desert Island Discs" which has the guest select just 8 records to spend the rest of their lives with. I maintain a playlist of my own choices for this scenario (just for fun) and Spirit of Eden is a constant.

I didn't know they were worth so much on Vinyl - so am feeling lucky to have them.

There are a couple of albums containing out-takes and missing pieces that are well worth seeking out if you haven't already.

RE: What albums really make your Linn shine?
MattC's post sent me scurrying to my LP collection to find the Buddy Holly disc he mentioned. I too heard in in a demonstration years ago and even though it's not my kind of music, for sheer, startling clarity - and musicality - it was a must buy. My Sondek is being serviced at the moment, but can't wait to hear this again! Thanks Matt.

RE: What albums really make your Linn shine?
Hello everybody,

I'm new to this forum and this is my first post.
One week ago I bought a used LP12 with Itok+Asaka and Lingo to replace my 12 y.o. Basik+Akito+K9
What a difference!!
One of the albums I really enjoyed was Joe Jackson - Body and Soul 1986. Diamant!

Hello all

Thought i would offer one -

Roger Waters - Amused To Death (Mastersound pressing though the standard issue is good)

This is my test disc due to the incredible recording and music contained

Ripped from mastersound to NAS in FLAC via KDS - soooo good

Mark

RE: What albums really make your Linn shine?
The first album by Rickie Lee Jones and the much later 'Pop'.

David Sylvian's 'Brilliant Trees'.

A lot of the older 12' vinyl singles stand out even on my lowly Rega!! I'd sit and listen to Soul to Soul 'Keep on Movin'' any time.

Lounge: Classik Movie '05, LK140 Activ x 3, AV5140's, Ekwal, Kan IV's, AV5150. Kitchen: Classik Music, Katans + Sizmik. Bedroom: Classik Movie + Katans. Everywhere else - iPods.
