What albums really make your Linn shine?
For all us DSers out there, potential one's and I guess I'll include the vinyl junkies too Tongue
The question's in the title.
What albums make your system really shine?
Please state the album, artist and source (DS or vinyl)

I hope to make this a place for everyone to share their revelations in their music collections and help to point others to the long lost corners of their own collections.

Thanks!

Here's one of mine for a starter:

Madonna - Confessions on a dancefloor - DS

ADSM, 4200/D, 109s, k400, silvers

Secrets of the Beehive - David Sylvian - vinyl

Despite not being able to get hold of a mint copy yet it just sounds sublime on lp.

RE: What albums really make your Linn shine?
...absolutely agree that David Sylvian is especially well suited - his albums are so well recorded...my choice of his are from a bit later in his career...

BOTH the Nine Horses albums are spectacularly good - but a particular favorite track being "The Librarian" from Snow Borne Sorrow. Money For All from the album of the same name is also brilliant.

He also kind of reformed Japan for the album Rain Tree Crow - and the track "Blackwater" from that is a personal favourite, and sounds great on Linn.

Away from David Sylvian - i always love the way the last two Talk Talk albums sound - Laughing Stock and Spirit of Eden are just classic albums, with really fantastic recorded sound...

For vinyl I also agree with Sylvian, Violator, and Talk Talk, though I need to get new copies of Laughing Stock and Spirit Of Eden as mine are well past their best.

I'd also say Peter Gabriel 3 & 4, Soul Mining by The The, first two Blue Nile albums, House Tornado by Throwing Muses, and The Score by The Fugees

If ever there were albums crying out for High Resolution Lossless its these two. The Mark Hollis solo album (the last thing he did before he sadly retired from music) is also great...

RE: What albums really make your Linn shine?

Tigerlily by Natalie Merchant

Amazing voice from the ex 10000 maniacs lead, and just great songs.

The Standard edition sounds good - but there is also a MFSL Gold CD edition which really makes the most of the high quality and simple recording of a band and singer on top form. The tracks Carnival (great guitar and backing vocals, plus Natalies soaring voice) and San Andreas Fault (..that voice again..) are the ones i play for visitors.

There is a torrent out there for the MFSL edition if you know where to look... ;-)

From the Original Master Tapes by Buddy Holly

A couple of years ago the original live studio recordings were all brushed up and released on the CD "From the Original Master Tapes" on which "True Love Ways" is simply stunning... Amazing live feel (including a bit of studio chat at the front) and just incredibly open high fidelity sound...all the more amazing that it was recorded 50 years ago; it could have been yesterday (except it sounds better than 99.9% of modern recordings!) and on that one track in particular, Buddy Holly is in the room with you...

I've known Linn themselves use this at demo events - which is indeed where i first heard it (Thanks George!)

The original disc is not easy to get hold of - Amazon are out of stock and i had to get mine from eBay via australia; worth every ounce of carbon it took to get it to me though!

Again - there is a torrent out there...
