RE: New higher performance Linn DS players
Gavin confirmed the following:

"I can confirm there are no further upgrades planned for Akurate Exakt DSM (or in fact Akurate DSM).
The changes we've made are to the board layouts of the products with analogue outputs only, i.e. Akurate DS and Akurate DSM.
The Akurate DSM had this change introduced when the /1 version was introduced last summer, along with the addition of Exakt Link connections.
So you have the latest specification"

This clears up my question - Many thanks

Unless you have the means to keep up with it (I certainly haven't), sit back and enjoy what you've got and forget about hifi shops until something goes wrong. If your (marvellous) DS player sounded good when you ordered and bought it, it still will now - even if its circuit board has now been superceded.

Well put. If it sounded good when you made your decision, it still does.

For people with upgrade anxiety, I can also recommend to study the product release schedule almost all consumer companies live by, prior to making your investment decisions. Linn seems to announce new products/major upgrades twice yearly, in Q1 and Q3. And then you can speculate in what type of product might be up for releases by studying current product history. Maybe no big surprise a five year old DS product gets an upgrade now, with all the action going on around their new Exakt system hierarchy. Then make your Linn investment decision in Q2 or Q4.

RE: New higher performance Linn DS players
I am very excited about an upgrade in sound quality a sit is so good already! How about DSD? Not a word on DSD as we could expect from Linn. Or are they going to positively surprise us??

If the Renew pricing is somewhat OK I am in!

Does this change apply to the Klimax Exakt DS too or is it simply changes to the non Exakt DS?

RE: New higher performance Linn DS players
I suspect you have a Klimax Exakt DSM as until this upgrade there was not a Klimax Exakt DS which is what you end up with after upgrading a Klimax DS. The DSM already has this technology.

If I am honest I get completely confused after all of the upgrades and so on but I had a Klimax DS and 350a, fully upgraded (power etc) and then I did the Exakt upgrade to the DS and speakers. So I think you are saying I have a Klimax Exakt DSM with Exakt 350's.

Music used to be so easy . . . . .

The good news that there isn't yet another upgrade being dangled in front of me because TBH it would have been the last straw I think if they had promoted the Exakt upgrade only to issue another so soon after. I am still very disappointed with Kazoo from a feature and performance perspective but hope that will at least eventually be rectified.

That is an extremely intriguing question, as to me, the information released thus far is just a little confusing. From what I can gather - from reading the official forum posts about this update - the same improvement now exists (and indeed has existed for quite some time) on the analogue output on the EKDSM, but until these recent discussions, I've not heard of anyone suggesting that non-Exakt customers might wish to consider updating their KDS to the EKDSM, just to get an improvement to the sound from the analogue output, so either nobody has yet compared the analogue output of the EKDSM to that of the KDS/1 (which is certainly possible) or it is such a minor difference that nobody has noticed that there there had been any improvement (WRT the KDS/1).

KDS/1 (music) + ADSM (AV) -> KK/1 -> 350A + miniDSP time & phase aligned 345 rear sub
KDS Renew -> Homebrew fixed attenuator -> 2250/D -> 212 and Sizmik front sub (bedroom)
MDSI -> 104C (awaiting installation in my kitchen)
MDSI -> Shahinian Arc (installed at my mum's house)

I guess we'll find that out after the official launch day. I'm sure the existing versions will be said to sound 'broken' once the new versions hit the street, but I'm going to listen long and hard before making any decisions.

What's the chances of that happening on this Forum - you know the script!

Unidisk SC | Majik LP12 | Trampolin 2 | Lingo 3.
Akurate DSM | Akurate Exaktbox 10 | 2 x Akurate 4200/1 | Exakt dual-mono Keilidhs
Raspberry Pi 2 Model B | IQAudio Pi-DAC+ | Audiolab 8000A | AR28s.
