Linn Forum Webinar: Linn DSM vs. Pre-amplifier Technology
We'll be hosting our first ever Linn Forum webinar this Thursday 4th June at 18:00 BST.

Join Keith Robertson - Linn's Technical Director - as he explains the technologies that enable a Linn DSM to outperform a stand-alone pre-amp, including how Klimax DSM better protects an analogue signal compared to the Klimax Kontrol.

To join the webinar simply click on the link below and follow the instructions to register.

Keith will also be answering questions on the night, so to make sure we get through as many as possible, if you already have any questions please submit them in advance by posting in this thread.

We'll look forward to seeing you online on Thursday - and don't worry if you can't make it, we'll post a recording afterwards.

Looking forward to the webinar as the last one was really enjoyable.

I'd be interested in what improvements were implemented at both the Akurate and Majik levels, not just Klimax, as I know a lot of people are looking to dip their toe into Exakt technology. As I already had an Akurate DS/0 I was able to take advantage of the recent promotion and went for an Akurate DSM/1 and Akurate Exaktbox.

Also I'd like to hear about what implications this will have further down the line for power amps and speakers as both lines seem to be due a refresh.

I will definitely try to tune in for this one but there is a risk that I may miss it. Will it be recorded and available for download afterwards for a while? i.e. - seems to be the norm these days but thought I would ask.

If you look at the original post now then there will be a recording available afterwards.

Will try and watch live.

Will be interested to hear in particular about the thorn in digital volume control side of bit loss and how this has been addressed or perhaps it is not relevant to how the DSM volume control operates.

RE: Linn Forum Webinar: Linn DSM vs. Pre-amplifier Technology
I'll be travelling that day, so will miss it, unfortunately.

I am curious what the difference in sound quality would be, between my Accurate DSM/E and a Klimax DSM/E and whether it is a worthwhile upgrade. Does the cost justify the improvements?

I would be interested in an explanation of the ability of Linn to remotely diagnose problems with someone's Linn DSM and then send out the parts automatically to a designated dealer for repairs. This was mention in a Herald Scotland article on November 11/12, 2014 on Linn's financial statements for the year.

Is there any plan in the works for multi-channel Exakt? Big Grin Big Grin

Are there any hints on the next developments for SPACE Optimization?

This might also be a good time to mention my gratitude for the brilliant job Linn has done with development of Exakt, and providing SPACE optimization to all Linn owners with Linn digital streamers for free. It has been an amazing sound quality improvement!!! Thank you.

Are there any new Linn products about to be launched? Headphones? External power supplies? power conditioners? Upgraded power cords? Speaker wire? Ethernet cables? Tongue

I am curious if Linn has had an opportunity to try out a Melco in their system?

RE: Linn Forum Webinar: Linn DSM vs. Pre-amplifier Technology
I'm curious to understand how a current KDSM better protects my analog source signal than the latest spec KK, when I will only use the DSM as a source selector and volume control? As I'm currently not able to utilize the full Exakt eco system with my own preferred set of speakers.

How have you redesigned source selection and volume control for the analog source in the current DSM as opposed to the original DSM design, as I clearly rated that inferior to the KK when I compared this a few years back?

Looking forward to the Thursday webinar. Keep up the good work.

Best regards, Mats

I'm also curious on your thoughts of offering vinyl rip possibilities in future products? Considering the often much superior sound quality of vinyl releases, as opposed to their compressed volume maximized digital counterparts - sadly including HD-files (which commonly by default seems to be derived from the same compressed mixes).

Thanks for the questions folks, keep them coming.

As an appetizer for tomorrow, take a look at Keith's post:

The white paper might prompt a few more questions, so have a read and feel free to post more questions in this thread.

RE: Linn Forum Webinar: Linn DSM vs. Pre-amplifier Technology
There seems to be a broad consensus that a KK + previous version DS was better than a previous version DSM.

I guess it would help to understand how that picture has changed in Linn's view with the latest DSM version by providing the same charts from the white paper (e.g. for noise level and distortion) for the last generation KK+DS vs. old DSM vs. new DSM.

I assume such diagrams would show a different picture and may help to adress the remaining 'disbelieve' some have Big Grin
