Akito - Japanese or Scottish?
My Akito serial number is 102140. Who can tell me where it was made? One thing tells me Japan, but another tells me Scotland ...
Cheers,
DD

There's a description on a arm collar. Made in Japan (Akito v1) or Made in Scotland (Akito v2).

Dom,

The Linn produced Akito was launched in December 1994, and was serial no. 100,000. Therefore you have a Scottish one.

RE: Akito - Japanese or Scottish?
Aah, if only it were that easy! What about an arm collar marked "made in Japan" with a post-100,000 s/n? The s/n is on a barcoded sticker under the armclip mount.
Was there maybe a transitional model that used old collars on new arms?
Cheers,
DD

RE: Akito - Japanese or Scottish?
If you didn't purchase the Akito new it is quite likely that the previous owner at some point upgraded to the Akito II but they, or the dealer who installed it, didn't bother swapping out the mounting collar. I would go by the serial number, but there are other ways to tell. The Akito II has a textured finish on the arm tube while the Akito 1 was smooth. Also the vertical bearing races, which you can see in the pivot area, are brass color on the Akito II and silver color on the original Akito.
