Komri - still alive !!!
Hi dear Linn-Lovers,

are there still some of you out there with experience on Komri? Yes I am talking about these nice Speakers coming from the good old times Rolleyes

I started Linn many, many years ago with Nexus connected to my Youth-Setup. Next step was an active Karik-Numerik-LK100-Kaber chain. What a groove!

Then I continued step by step and "logical" on Ikemi, Unidisc1.1, active 242 and ended up with KDS/1,KK/1,K350A (latest spec). All was nice and transparent but I somehow lost my good old groove.

Finally I "found" the traditional combination of a pair of Solos with Komri for myself. With the new KDSM/1 and dynamiced Solos this is like back in good old vinyl-times --- but better Cool

But as usual there is always the look for the next step. So I had to take this unresistable pair of brandnew Solos. I thought I would simply do the biamping. But there are some questions coming up:

1. What is your experience on the logic of biamping:
A - Supertweeter (ST) & Tweeter (T) together and Midrange (MR) & Upperbass (UB) together
B - ST on one Solo and T&MR&UB together
C - ST&T&MR on one Solo and UB on the other Solo

2. Where would you place the brandnew Solo and where the dated and later dynamiced Solo?

3. Would you Daisy-chain the Solos or build a Y-Silver coming from the KDSM?

4. Any other optimisation-ideas? (I spent a lot of time in Speaker positioning, filling the room with absorbing books/CDs... als much as possible from the WAF-view Tongue )

I am really looking forward to your comments!

Cheers from Hamburg

Welcome in the Komri heaven.

Ad 1) best musicality when ST+T+MR on one amp, the UB on the other amp. Other combinations may sound better but on the long run ...

Ad 2) don't know but it's easy to try.

Ad 3) daisy chain works fine.

Ad 4) put each Solo on a TimeTable. Make sure that all your silver cable are in good condition. Spend enough time for positioning your Komris. 5mm can make a large different.

Have fun.

Kind regards
Ben

RE: Komri - still alive !!!
We were fortunate to have a pair of Komris through the business a couple of years back. They stayed in our Lounge from the day they were bought to the day they were packed up and delivered by hand across the channel to our customer near Paris. If we had had a larger house where they would not dominate physically the room and the 10K to keep them then we would have definitely kept them. Strangely for us it is the memory of the vocal reproduction that lingers. Just real. Simply described. We are also very happy that they went to a real enthusiast with a cave under his house that was HiFi heaven. Three Nakamichis says it all really.

just look at it as an intermediate step; next step would be to purchase 4 additional brand new solos and two klimax exaktboxes and then ... Big Grin

RE: Komri - still alive !!!
Four dynamiked solos right? Sweet.
OK, use two on the Right hand channel, and two on the left.
Use one for the super tweeter and tweeter, and the other for the mid and upper bass units. This is to be replicated for the other channel. Ok? Enjoy......

Hi pdcman,

have you tried other combinations like one amp for 3K, one for the upper bass?

If not, try it. I found it more natural and more consistent.

No, I didn't get the chance. Linn recommended that four solos were connected as I suggested above. They class it as a four k array anyway. Wink

RE: Komri - still alive !!!
I might've missed something here, but isn't the Komri active only and therefore needs 2 Klimax Tuneboxes and 4 amp channels per speaker? So 4x Twins or 8x Solos?

No. Same idea as 350Ps.
