linn 5125 setup
I've acquired some linn bits and after some advice on setup. I've bought a 5125 and aktiv card. This will be run by a denon 3200w. My question was where do the rca go as there's only 1 input. On speaking with a dealer I could run the ekwal aktiv on 2 channels and the rear kans passive on the other 2 channels leaving 1 free. How would I wire this up?

RE: linn 5125 setup
I have no experience with an AV 5125 and Aktiv cards, nor do I know how to properly connect the Ekwal Aktiv card, but I would consider using the AV5125 to power your front speakers and let the 3200W handle the rears. You might even consider using the 5125 to bi-amp your front speakers and keep the Ekwal passive.

If you have better setup for your fronts, then this post is only a BUMP to get attention. Smile

RE: linn 5125 setup
Welcome to the forum and we look forward to your contributions Smile

There is an input and an output for each channel, numbered 1 to 5.

Channel 1 would be left free.

Use channels 2 and 3 in the normal way for the rear speakers - put the left rear out from your processor to the input of channel 2 and the speaker cables from channel 2 out to the rear left speaker - put the right rear out from your processor to the input of channel 3 and the speaker cables from chaneel 3 out to the right rear speaker.

So you have channels 4 and 5 left. You need to install the active card in the amp in the lower card position - see link below on how to install the card (the link takes you to an install for Katans, but the bit you want to look at is how to install the lower card and the internal link cable). When you install the card, 2x green tabs will poke out through the rear panel of the amp - one next to each set of connectors.

Now connect the centre channel from your processor to the input of channel 5. I don't know how the 5120 active card is configured, but the tab sticking through the back panel of the amp will tell you which of channels 4 and 5 will output bass or treble information. Connect the correct speaker output on channels 4 and 5 to the correct inputs on the centre speaker.
NOTE: the centre speaker will need to be adjusted to allow for active use. I've never had an Ekwal but its probably just a matter of removing the connector collars than then flipping the connector panels until the "active" one is facing outwards then replacing the collars.

IF YOU ARE IN ANY DOUBT, TAKE THE AMP AND SPEAKER TO A DEALER WHO WILL PROBABLY CHARGE AN HOUR OF LABOUR TO DO THE AMP AND SPEAKER FOR YOU.

NO!!!!!

The Ekwal stereo active card is linked internally so you only need to connect the lead for the centre channel to only one of the inputs (does not matter which) but both output channels will then be giving a signal.

RE: linn 5125 setup
The fronts are 5140 run by 3xlk100 aktiv to now match the ekwal. The rears are kans which will be passive. In the ceiling will be linn sweetspot speakers for atmos. The ceiling and rears will be passive as only used for films. Can't imagine aktiv will make difference for the rear half of the setup. The kans will be bi wired and the sweetspot straight from the denon. Think this should work OK?

I would like to thank krescendo hifi who found me the ekwal aktiv card and has been more than helpful in setting up my system and giving no end of advice for little return. They will certainly.be getting any further business when I upgrade

Thanks for this CJ - I have corrected the post to reflect your advice.
