RE: Where to start with a streaming system
I stand corrected - Phino is right - though you could end up with AEDSM, Majik-I Exaktbox and Akubariks for 11K you require 10 channels in total to drive the 5-way Akubariks, so that combination won't work Sad

Akudoriks could work very well though. Majik Isobariks too and I wouldn't pass on trying a pair of M140s either.
Keltiks, Espeks, 212s - all are easy to try and demo once you have the AEDSM + Majik-I Exaktbox together. No active cards needed anymore.

All those speakers are quite a bit cheaper than Akubariks - to use those in an Exakt system you'd need either the integrated version or the separate Exaktbox options plus additional amplification. But then you need to increase the budget I'm afraid...

LP12 Radikal Keel Ekos2 Adikt - KRDS1 - Oppo UDP-205 - Lejonklou Slipsik 6.0 - Satagun Mono 1.3 Preamps - Tundra Mono 2.2 Poweramps - Klangedang T1 & Synkron filters

Lejonklou • NOKTable Turntable stand • Quadraspire supplier

What do you think for a 4 time price difference?

I love my Akubariks, but, based on a direct comparison I have made between them and the 140s' little siblings (the 109s) plus sub-woofer, there is a law of diminishing returns to increasing price. And not only in the speakers themselves; as others have said, the extra Exakt and amplification channels and cabling you require (if you go down that route) for the top of the range speakers do not come cheap. So I think that Tin has given you generally good advice.

RE: Where to start with a streaming system
Patrick - its time for a couple more pints. We could get you up to speed on the Linn range by the second pint and have the screwdrivers out on the WB's by the 4th pint Smile

You could do AEDSM, Majik Exaktbox-i (ex dem) and brand new Twenty.26 for around £10k... whilst stocks last on 26s of course - I don't know how much supply there is left at the dealers. Quite a few about secondhand too. But maybe you didn't like them too much anyway. Or those electronics and a conversion of the WBs?

I understand that I will quite likely be able to convert the Arcs to Exakt in the near future

Are you privy to some insider information Wink

I suspect this is Sunbeam promising his services Wink

Phil.

No, I've heard nothing from Sunbeam on this - just joining some dots.....EDIT just had an email from HOL to say that there are no plans to supply an Exakt crossover for the Arcs....

See Philbo, I'm a good boy really! (some of the time). I know Patrick is thinking about Scalford, so perhaps he's done some reading.

Great if that works - it would actually mean that with MDSM/2 + Majik-I Exaktbox one would have 10 channels at disposal and drive for instance a pair of 242s with that...

Well done Linn for adding that flexibility

Smile
I don't think so as you would only have 8 Exakt channels. But maybe I'm wrong. That happened before.

You're right, Tin.
That is worrying. Smile

Plus I think the manual for the Exaktbox-I says not to use both speaker and rca outs concurrently. Otherwise you could actually have 16 channels Wink

RE: Where to start with a streaming system
I see someone piped up on the Series 5. One box dead-end solution, but still a solution all the same. The 520 with Exaktbox-sub and a subwoofer, or 530, still comes to over the budget. Which when compared to the other solutions discussed here, is interesting in itself.

Er, no. Only 8 DACs. And only software for 8 channels ...

Yes of course. Doh! They'd just be doubled up.

If you are willing to go ex-dem, there's a pair of Akudorik Exakt in oak
here for GBP 8.995,- You can add an AEDSM for another 2.500,-
That's a bit more than your budget, but maybe you can sell off some of your current stuff?

My system: LP12/Keel/Radikal/Ekos 2/Akiva/Akurate DSM1/Cisco WS-C2960-8TC-L/ QNAP 219P II / Kudos /2 x C6100-D/Akubarik (active bass).

As that offer is at least 6 months old, the price should even be able to go down further. That is, if they still have them.

Tin can telephone system.

He's using the old prices. It's actually over 7k off currrent list price so that's a mighty fine deal. AEDSM is 2.7k now btw.
Whether that means the deal is still what it says, as Tin says. He may actually put it up!
