RE: Linn Launching Exakt.Design at HIFIWIGWAM 2017
A few years ago I did use my Asus Xonar Sound card (7.1 channel card) as a digital filter for my original models Isobariks. Ran some software on the PC that did the frequency splitting (very configurable) then each channel of the Xonar fed six channels of power amplification then on to the Isobariks. Worked really well but was also REALLY scary in case the software crashed or similar. Can't remember the name of the software but was easy to use.

If this is the plan I don't really understand the business model for Linn? Is this just an introduction to Exakt for folks in the hope that they go on and buy boxes? Seems to me that replicating the Exakt protocol in software feeding a Linn Exakt box, serves as a good interim stepping stone, makes Linn money on Exakt crossover/DAC sales and even opens up opportunity for Katalyst upgrade when it comes to an exaktbox near you! With the multitude of Exakt box Models (channels and quality) to choose from why would people buy a third party DAC? Software offers greater flexibility and future proofing for media management (streaming, storage, format conversion and general control through UI) - there are a lot of technically aware PC Audiophiles out there who may well jump on Exakt if it's made possible.

I don't understand the business model either - at Scalford, Linn were polling the audience about their interest in a low cost (Linn?) DAC to go with the software.

Meridian seem to have a business model for selling DAC's. Not sure why Linn couldn't:

Roy.

Linn already has a DAC in the market it's called an Exaktbox, makes more sense to me that they would leverage that and make the software plugin a lot easier to write.

Any news about Exakt Design? Is the design page already online?
How and when is it possible to become a member?

I just logged on without any issues (and opened one of the test projects that I'd built as part of the beta testing) so it all looks to be working, just fine.

Exakt.Design is available today at https://exakt.design but is (currently) invite only. You can register your email address there to be notified of any future developments. We issued exclusive invites to attendees of the Scalford HiFi Show in March. If you have a specific project in mind feel free to drop me a PM and I'll see what we can do to support you.

Well spotted, Bri! I simply saw the 'coming soon' sticker on the share button and assumed it wasn't yet ready! D'oh...

RE: Linn Launching Exakt.Design at HIFIWIGWAM 2017
I created 4 'silly' projects just to test how it all felt when driving the initial system (my plan being to ask questions - that others might ask when it went live - and thus perhaps help avoid lots of similar questions after it had been launched). I did think it would be quite fun to rake old 'Hi Fi' speakers out of skips (or eBay) and build crossovers for them, just to hear how they sounded when Exakt fed (perhaps using a Majik Exakt box) but I couldn't really justify the spend (I'd also have required to update one of the DSs to get the Exakt Links) as I simply don't require another yet sound system (so after the initial fun had been had, it would all have just ended up collecting dust on a shelf in my store room; alongside my dusty LK collection, most likely) so I just played with the controls to see how they all worked. If I hadn't already had several sound systems, I'd certainly have been up for building a DIY one; it would be a great fun project to undertake!

Of course, being such a sensible person, one of my test projects is called 'Whardale Linton "Very Kwesi" Johnsons' and another is called 'Rasta Boomski Bassalot Soundsystem'. Tongue
