I mean, why even put a speaker model there if there are no measurements for said model? What's the point? It's a bit like saying, "Oh, here's something that I have for you, but you can't have it."

Now, I'm not one to go about bellyaching, and I'm sure this has been mentioned before...so why? Really.

I don't think it has been mentioned. Which speaker models are you referring to?

Gee, where to start, unless it's just that Linn forgot to put the Measured for Optimization icon and they are really measured. However, if you have a a speaker that doesn't have the Measured for Optimization icon on the speaker, a screen displays stating, "Your speaker will be measured as a point source."

For instance, out of 16 Audio Physic speakers listed, only 5 are "measured."

We have one Devore speakers listed, but it is not "measured."

We have one Legacy speaker listed, but it is not "measured."

Out of 11 Magico speakers listed, only 6 are "measured."

Out of 23 Martin & Logan speakers listed, only 6 are "measured."

The list goes on and on.

All of that is actually horrible.

Now, I love Linn, but I have to say that this makes no sense at all, unless it's Linn wanting to give the impression that they have more in their stable than they actually do. Is that marketing?

This came up because I have a friend who I was selling on Linn gear. We went looking through the speakers, because I told him that his Legacy Focus SEs were on the list, as well as his Dynaudio 340s that he has in his HT. He then pointed out to me that these aren't actually measured.

I wonder what gives.

RE: New Space Optimisation Blog - Why We Dropped The Mic.
I think that the measured ones have had there drive units accousitcally measured whereas the non-measured ones just have the drive unit physical positions in the database i.e. how high the bass driver is relative to the bottom of the cabinet. Last I tried it trying out different speakers with all other data remaining constant made very small differences to the results especially if the speakers were physically similar i.e. two floor standers

Bottom line, not something to get too excited about.

That still doesn't quite make sense, though, because upon selecting a non-measured speaker, Konfig asks for the same data as if it didn't know what speaker you have, i.e. you have to enter in your email address to inform Linn what you're using.

Now, I understand what you're saying about making very little difference (at least I think I do); on the other hand, why not just drop the photos and the model of the speaker since the system is going to work very close to an unknown speaker?

It's not to inform Linn what you have, it's so they can email you once they have measured their acoustic properties and you can then re-optimise. And as far as I can see it doesn't ask for any other data. Selecting them, rather than generic unmeasured ones, you will get the advantage of the point source measurements for that speaker (even if it is small). Better than no banana isn't it?)

Perhaps the issue is that the icon for Measured speakers makes it look like the others are just generic models. Perhaps a better way would be to drop it, and put an icon on the others that says "Measured as a point source only" instead. Or something?
