Anyway.. what about Tin-foil?

Tin-foil!?!? What! I want to see pics if this is a reality for anyone.....Wink

Tin is joking. Smile

There should not be any visible foil, and room furniture placement should not be impacted.

I might have been joking a bit about the foil, but Stasia was thinking about refurnituring -after- you'd do your magic, and that would render it less effective.
So I was being helpful, for once. Wink

Besides, there will be foil.. there always is.. ta dum, ta dum, Ta Dum..

RE: Sub for 109s
I hope Paul puts some comments here about his feelings on the BKElec Gemini sub StasiaO ordered. I have been thinking about one for a while, and I'm curious if it passes the audition given it's humble pricing.

MDSM/2, 6100/D, both draining into large Ikea Aptitligs, bi-aktiv Ninkas(steel bases), K600 and silvers.
Sennheiser HD650's, Aune X7s
Asus AC88U router, Synology 215j(Minimserver), ASUS VivoMini HTPC.
Oppo 105D, Panasonic TC-P50ST60 plasma, VIZIO S4251w-B4 soundbar

I hope to give it a listen later this week.

RE: Sub for 109s
Paul: if you need to adjust it, here is the manual of -my- subs:
https://relsupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/...Manual.pdf
The BK is of course different, but the manual does show how the Neutrik connector works (page 11), but more importantly there is a chapter about setting gain and volume (page 15). Following that literary is very counter intuitive but it is the correct way for RELs.
Oscar Peterson is a great song for the final fine tuning, Christine and the Queens 'IT' works good for showcasing the effect.

Like Jail4ceos2 I am very curious about your results, I wish I could be there too.

I'm very curious how much foil you'll be able to sell. If you do outer walls, it will insulate agains the cold if you use 6 layers, and of course the reflections help saving on electric bills. Lastly it looks great. Wink

While Montana bound is technically correct, this one's better.

RE: Sub for 109s
I just got back last night from an amazing trip to Montana, and finally got to meet the beautiful and brilliant Stasia.

She had ordered a new BK sub for her 109's driven by a Majik DSi.

Unfortunately, the sub had not arrived at her home by the time I arrived, last Thursday, nor before I left there yesterday afternoon.

However, we spent an evening enjoying Stasia's wonderful dinner, while John and I played around with setting up her stereo, with SPACE optimization.

Stasia's Linn system is in the living room that is approximately 12-14 feet wide, by about 30 feet long, with an open concept kitchen-living space. This is basically a rectangular room, with the speakers are firing across the width of the room, in a cozy listening area, but with a glass fronted fireplace, to the right of the right speaker. The 109's are placed close to the wall about 5 feet apart.

When I arrived, we played some music, to listen to what it sounded like, and overall, it was a good presentation streaming music from Radio Paradise.

John was our go-to guy for all things networking and streaming, and we were able to load up all my reference tunes for a spin through Stasia's Linn system.

I got to work with SPACE optimization after dinner, and started changing the values for the calculated room modes, while adding some new custom filters.

Stasia, had calculated room modes at 37.62, 44.54, 59.84, 62.70, 75.24 and 78.09.

I settled on a custom room mode at 28.54 Hz with a gain of -10.06 dB, and a bandwidth of 0.014427.

I changed the calculated room mode at 62.70, to 63.5 Hz, and the gain from -21.48 to -8.48 after some listening.

Calculated room mode 5 at 75.24 was changed to 74.3 Hz, but I forgot to write down her gain setting. I think it was in the -7.00 -8.00 dB range.

I eliminated the calculated room mode at 59.84 by setting the gain to 0.00, and then we did more listening. I learned about this tweak from Timster, so I now call it the Timster Tweak. Tongue

I do believe the end result was impressive, even without the sub, and those 109's were singing a new tune like I had never heard them before. Big Grin

The look on Stasia's face said it all. It was one of astonishment and wonder.

It was a great pleasure to meet Stasia, on Friday night, and I had the opportunity to visit with her again on Sunday for dinner, after John and I paddled for almost 4 hours in his canoe up the Gallatin river, all the way to the Missouri River, about 12 miles.

I have not paddled a canoe for many years, but in the spirit of the mighty voyageurs in the days of fur trading, we ran countless rapids, and drifted past beautiful scenery at every turn.

But that is another story......

RE: Sub for 109s
I'm happy you got it done, but deeply saddened you didn't hear the BK. They remain an enigma. Will SPACE need to be redone once the BK arrives?
