RE: I think I was lied to...
I think you should put a carpet on the decking. It has acoustical advantages, it'll keep your feet warm and I'm sure Thomas will approve as well.
You might consider placing a roof over it as well, and some walls maybe..

Is that your idea of a hot tub - just stick a large bass driver in there and it will act as both a jacuzzi and a sub- woofer! Big Grin

LOL! Big Grin - I love Fuchsias and have been busy populating my new garden in the last 18 months with cuttings taken from a friend's garden.

Great for the Elephant Hawk moth too as it's one of their caterpillar's food plants.

What with buddleia, heebies and honeysuckle my garden, its great for butterflies and moths throughout the summer Smile

Good news that. I am trying to encourage the Bees, with some success. I love to see them disappear up the Fuchsias trumpets.

Unfortunately we don't seem to see very many Butterflies in our garden.

RE: I think I was lied to...
I've had limited success with Hebe - maybe a combination of my heavy clay soil and the cold, wet climate up here in Linnland?

Hydrangeas do very well though and I'm having better luck with Viburnum x Burkwoodii - evergreen and very fragrant flowers. Big Grin
