First, thanks to the gents at SG for hosting the event and for their hospitality. Here are some thoughts:

Nice write up & intriguing! Hope the Exaktboxen won't take to long to become, well scrutable.

I recently visited Frahms studio (amazing space & looks very different fully equipped!!). Among other things had a nice chat about DACs. He is running Burl Motherships, perhaps the only installation in Germany. American reliability but that sound! Juicy, deep and very three-dimensional - it's a big part of his sounds - besides the Studer desk and vintage mics to die for of course Wink

His monitoring are Geithain 801s + matching subs. Another amazing set if you can get over the optics...

I seem to remember reading somewhere on the forum that 'unity gain' with Katalyst is now lower (Vol 32...?) than before (Vol 80).

Can anyone confirm this?

That wouldn't make sense. Unity Gain is so the source can take control of the volume, so it needs to be high.
I think it's the level at which the DVC is lossless (and I think it's 38).

Is it already confirmed that the Akubarik modules need being shipped to Scotland for the upgrade?

As promised, we have today announced new Akubarik and the Akudorik loudspeakers, now featuring Katalyst.

You can find out more Akubarik here: https://www.linn.co.uk/hifi-separates/sp...k#akubarik

And about the upgrade here: https://www.linn.co.uk/hifi-separates/upgrades/akubarik

The difference that the Katalyst upgrade makes is phenomenal, and I highly recommend contacting you local Linn dealer to hear it for yourself.

Happy listening and if you are fortunate enough to demo them, please feel free share your experiences with the group!

Craig

The upgrade page for Akubariks states:

"Exakt modules for Aktiv Akubarik speakers
Produces a completely phase linear response from Akubarik speakers
Upgraded power amplification
Upgrade to Katalyst DAC Architecture
Includes new measured 3K arrays (where required)"

Can you explain 'upgraded power amplification'? In what way has this been upgraded? Presumably this is separate from the 'DAC Architecture'?

Hi Vincent,

This was a mistake on the web page which will be fixed very shortly. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

The Power amplification technology is the same across the range of Akubariks with amplifier modules.

Best Regards,

Dan
