RE: The better Exakt upgrade for Akudoriks: Exaktbox-I vs. Dorik stands
Of course, Exaktbox 10 and a couple of Majik 4100s gets you a long way and likely to be available used for somewhat less cost than the stands.
Or, 2x Exaktbox 6 and a couple of Majik amps means you could site them close to the speakers to minimise cabling, but will take you closer to the stands in price, even used.

Neither of these have Katalyst of course (yet) but do have the advantage of much more flexibility for future options (which seems not to be a priority at the moment).

Playroom: SBT; V-DAC1; Cyrus6; M773e

RE: The better Exakt upgrade for Akudoriks: Exaktbox-I vs. Dorik stands
Hello,

last week I had the chance to hear Akudorik Exakt (Dorik stands) pre Katalyst at Ripcaster in Checkendon - thanks Jon Nelson.
The performance of these small speakers was simply astounding. I know them from my home, but with the Dorik stands they play on a different level and it's simply a beautiful solution with minimised use of cables.
That now all Dorik stands also come with Katalyst is in my opinion just what sells it for me, as that marks currently the technological pinnacle for LINN equipment.

I was considering also the other potential path via Exaktbox-I and there is nothing really wrong with it - it's at a third of the cost of Dorik - but the overall package of Dorik incl. Katalyst is just much better.
Will make the upgrade next year and surely report.

Regards, Maik.

RE: The better Exakt upgrade for Akudoriks: Exaktbox-I vs. Dorik stands
Hi,
wanted to give an update on my acquisition process.
In the meantime I upgraded to Akudorik Exakt on Dorik stands with the latest Katalyst upgrade.
So that was a quite big jump up from passive Akudoriks that I bi-amped with a C5100 to Exakt Dorik with Katalyst. So I can't say anything about how big the difference is between non-Katalyst and Katalyst.
For my local LINN specialist that was his first Akudorik Exakt installation, as he recommends his customers the typical floorstanding speakers - I really had to convince him to sell me Akudoriks. Smile
So what is my verdict?
Definitely by a big margin the sound was never so three-dimensional so close to my ear. My LINN specialist even said, that for him it was too three-dimensional. But for me music can't be spatial enough. I can hear now many instruments much clearer, that in the past sounded muddy and you couldn't enjoy them.
My wife that claimed before, that she won't be able hear a difference said the music is louder. But what she meant is that she heard for the first time some nuances of the music really well.
I also played around with Space Optimisation+, but I have to say that I couldn't find any room mode to improve the regular unaltered sound I have. So, probably the speakers are placed really well in the room.
Overall, if you like bookshelf speaker size and you're looking for a well designed solution with less cables and want to stop gear acquisition syndrome because you climb immediately a LINN pinnacle for that size, that's the system for you.
Now, I can concentrate for upgrades on my LP12. Smile

Urika II I presume?
Also - Keep SO+ turned on with all modes set to 0 rather then off. Else you'll be missing some of the hidden magic it does in an Exakt system.

Hi timster,

by keeping SO+ on and set all modes to 0, you mean pressing the button „Set all to 0db“ ? In my opinion that wouldn‘t alter the audio signal. Why would you recommend this?

Yes. Reason being, SO+ for an Exakt system does more than just room modes, it includes time-of-flight corrections.
