You can buy a AK4497EQ for £39.37 - all you then need is a case, a power supply, a few other components and some cabling! Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

I'm not allowed near soldering equipment after the incident.
I'm also not allowed nor feeling comfortable discussing beforementioned incident.

Had we chosen a slightly different AK family DAC chip it would have been based on merit and suitability for the intended purpose.

Where the Klimax uses 1 AK4497 per audio channel, the Akurate products use 1/2 of an AK4497 per audio channel. There are also differences between the electronics around it. I will not go into further detail about what the differences are though.

I will say that we are bypassing a large portion of the DAC chip in favour of performing those functions ourselves externally.

Best Regards,

Dan

Will DSD be supported in the Akurate line?!

Also I saw no mention of Katalyst Akurate DS/DSM, only Exaktboxen...

Craig,
what about the Keel?
Is is made on the new capabilities in-house as well?

The difference won't be large enough to change the label, but if you buy a second hand Katalyst Klimax it may be advisable to look out for a 2018 instead of 2017 device.
Small improvements in the production process happen in all industries and brands, quite often nobody notices it.
