Dynamik Upgrade Sound
Hi.
I make a Dynamik Upgrade for my Linn Majik DS. It runs now for 70 Hours. My Question is if the middle, get better. Because now they are little thin and hard. The trebble is fantastic, the bass is little deeper, but not so full as before. Thanks Marek |

RE: Dynamik Upgrade Sound
That's interesting. I just picked my new dynamik'd Magik DS/Majik-I at the weekend, and found the sound to be similar to what you describe. I've put this down to room position of my 109s and running the system in. I'm not worrying too much about it at the moment as I've heard my system set up perfectly at Glasgow's Stereo Stereo Dynamik event - and it sounded phenomenal. Just have to be patient and wait for it to burst into life. (fingers crossed)

Marek-F Wrote:The trebble is fantastic, the bass is little deeper, but not so full as before. You may be hearing a reduction in harmonic distortion. Often when harmonic noise is removed the sound will become less 'warm' than you are used to. This type of sound is quite typical with valve equipment which adds lots of harmonic distortion giving such equipment its characteristic warm sound. While the upgrade may leave your system sounding a little 'colder' than before you will soon start to hear much more midrange detail which was previously hidden by harmonic distortion. Phil. |

RE: Dynamik Upgrade Sound
I really did not like the Dynamik when I had it fitted last Friday....so much so that I was going to put the old PSU back in...( I even messed with my active card setup)...It has got better ( a lot beter after a reboot in config )during the week but still not as good as before (plays louder than before)...somehow things seem more muddled & confused when there is a lot going on in the music............if its just vocals and a guitar it sounds great.....hoping it will improve.......perhaps my lk140s cant cope or the Ninkas just seems too much information is getting through............I have gone from a balanced system back to imbalanced . My feeling is that the majik ds is now too good for the rest of the system (source first???? ) I will wait to see what another week brings then stick the old PSU back in..............THIS WAS NOT A WOW UPGRADE !!!!!!MORE LIKE WHY DID I MESS WITH A GOOD THING !!!!!!! MY ADVICE DEMO IN YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE PARTING WITH YOUR CASH

RE: Dynamik Upgrade Sound
Would be interested to know if you have changed/updated your software (cara) in the time you've had the dynamik.
I have a dynamik on order for my MDS, after hearing the improvements it made to my Akurate Kontrol. Cheers Paul |

RE: Dynamik Upgrade Sound
It is pretty simple to swap the power supplies - three connectors - so I would be try swapping back to the old power supply and having another listen - you should be able to do a simple A/B in your own home.

RE: Dynamik Upgrade Sound
Hi,
Having had the ability to use Linn pre & amp, the Quad II valve amps, serviced only a few months ago, with its new valve pre amp as well as the equivalent Naim pre & amp I can describe the following. My room has been built for the hi fi with a clean mains supply up from the power board and a few other mods to the room, soundproofing being the most important. I use Shaninian Arc speakers so not Linn ones, although I did try the 140's. The front end being a Majik DS, not Dynamik'd and an LP12, Ittok and Karma. Using the valve system the sound has a large soundstage, amazing midrange, treble slightly curtailed at the top and the bass a bit undefined at the bottom. However it is so easy to listen to that you forget any issues with the amplification and play music. The down side is the amps get very hot and the take a few minutes to warm up before you can play it. Other than that a very easy system to live with, and it sounds great from anywhere in the room. The Linn system I have is very detailed, fantastic dynamics, great separation of the soundstage, although the soundstage is not as big as the valve set up. Have tried expensive interconnects, speaker cables and power leads in this set up. The downside is that with all that detail I found whatever I played I listened to a certain parts of the music, say the bass or midrange and was unable to enjoy the music. In effect I was listening for faults in the system. It also lacked some excitement, it sounded what has been described as before as somewhat cold. I then used the Naim set up, not as big a soundstage as the Linn or valve amps, dynamics are the same as is on the Linn, detail is ok, but not quite up with the Linn. The benefits are in what is called this PRAT, Pace, Rhythm and Timing. Playing this combination in my room just makes me play music. I forget the equipment and enjoy the music. I have found I also listen to music I would not listen to on the other two systems such is the involvement that the Naim amps in this set up and room bring. I have no explanation of why it is like this, I am sure there will be many who suggest what it might be and why one of the others is a better system. The bottom line is that it matters not what you have, it is about will it work in your room, not in a HiFi shop. It must convey the music to you in a way that involves you, if it does not then no amount of money spent on it will improve things if the underlying issue of having plenty musical involment is not tackled first. Let me also say that all three different pre and amp combinations are very good and would do justice to anyone looking for a top range system. They are all very good. Also I did have these pieces of equipment all at the same time, so there were no gaps of time between being able to put them in place. This over a period of time as well. So what have I ended up with, well my signature will change in a short while. The story continues, watch this space. RE: Dynamik Upgrade Sound
Wise words indeed - do not listen to people saying this is better or that is better. Instead use your own ears in your own room. The results may suprise you and be different than the 'accepted' view but you will enjoy your music a lot more. I find time and again that 'extra cost' and 'better' do not often go together. My current favorite amp - Linn LK280/Spark, not been beatne by anything under £3000 yet...
Use your own ears not other people's oppinions to make your decisions is my advice. CJ Main: Rosewood LP12/EkosSE/Lyra Delos/Radikal/Urika Oppo105 Kisto 2x5125(D) Akurate212 Komponent106 Komponent104 Profession: Owner of Krescendo HiFi - Specialist in second hand Linn and Naim |
