Exotic preamp and Sneaky ds
I have just picked up my exotic preamp and have done some testing.

I have been using the sneaky straight into my solos for some time now , it sounds great but i have had some serious noise problems that have been holding back my system.

In short the exotic cured the noise problem 100% its now dead silent and musical notes are crystal clear .
the result is much more clear music picture more realness with lots more detaljs.
What i diddent expect was the increased dynamics and bass , that have puzzeled me a bit because thats the opposit óf what i have experinced previously.

But I think that i have found the problem and that was that the solos into my efficent speakers in a small room demanded that i lowered the digital volume control so much that i not only where loosing S/N ratio big time but where also suffering from major BIT lose.
I had the digital volume i´n the 10 /20 range all the time

So my advice is if you have the solos dont use the sneaky as source and preamp, you wil get big noise problem and have to turn the music down very very low and nad suffer from major resolution loos.

Il be trading in my sneaky ds tomorrow for a majik ds i really hope the digital volume kontrol in that one is better then the sneak because im aming for the simplest palyback system .

RE: Exotic preamp and Sneaky ds
Nice to hear you confirming my impression. Now just imagine how the Sneaky sounds through a Klimax Kontrol. Smile

I'm thinking of upgrading to a Majik DS as well. Please report how much better it is when you've got it.

RE: Exotic preamp and Sneaky ds
I suspect that the noise you were hearing was some kind of impedance mismatch between the Sneaky DS and the Klimax Solos or that the Sneaky DS was overloading the Solos input stage.

Glad you're enjoying your system now!!!!

BTW, I also have an Exotik preamp and love it!!!

RE: Exotic preamp and Sneaky ds
Is it a fact that is is a volume control based on bit reduction in the digital domain?

RE: Exotic preamp and Sneaky ds
To be honest It sounds pretty mindblowingly good right now, the noise is a big factor i really had to turn it up quit loud to make it sink into the background and even then it was audioble .
The music is so clear , instruments sounds real, and everything just boogies and pulls you in.

And the bass , my god i dos it now ,it dos that magical prat thing where the bass goes up and down it that familare rytmic way, it diddent do it before the exotic.

The exotic is a very very very fine preamp i have compared the the akurate pre with the klimax kontrol and i know the klimax would be magical in my system.

il report back tomorrow have the majik ds will preform but according to my experince with the sneaky it will need at least 200 houres before it really shines.

Brilliant (You have a Exotic - I had one v. nice, now replaced with KK). Very interested to know how the M-DS sounds.

RE: Exotic preamp and Sneaky ds
The only drawback of the Exotik/DS combo is that it is not supported as a 'Controllable' preamp from LinnGUI. I've been informed by Linn that there are no plans to implement it either. Sad

The only options are to move/upgrade to a 'Controllable' preamp (KK,AK,MK,Kinos,Kisto). Don't know why not implement support for it since Kinos and Kisto are about the same period as the Exotik if I recall correctly.

So much for 'not-planned obsolesence'...
