My Majik 140's are now Active
As promised, here is an update on the upgrade from bi-amped 140's (from a C5100) to active (C5100 + M3100).
I decided to open up a new thread, b/c the last one on active Majik's was speculative at best and then got distracted with talk of Majik vs. Akurate, Akurate vs. Klimax, Linn speakers vs. B&W, etc. Likely will happen here also, but thought I would at least start out clean. After a visit earlier this week from the dealer to make all the necessary changes with the jumpers in the speakers, installing cards and moving jumpers in the amps, and working with me and a db meter to adjust the bass output from the left channel (2db higher, due to a pesky corner or one side and open room on the other), the system is back up and sounding better than ever, and it sounded fantastic before. Here's how I would describe the changes I hear for those of you considering this path. Let me preface this description with a disclaimer that I don't read the audiophile press, so my vocabulary in describing these things is, well, immature. To me the separation between the instruments and vocals is better (more distinct), the overall sound is tighter and (even) more real. Also, my soundstage is better b/c of the newly obtained ability to adjust the output level of the bass driver. All in all, I am very pleased and would recommend this to anyone with the money and interest in improving what they already have. As I mentioned before, I don't desire for this post to be totally distracted by A/B comparisons with other equipment, but compared to other systems I have owned (including my prior favorite - active Keilidh's through a Mimik & later Ikemi), this is now my new favorite. I find myself spending a lot of time listening to music, and not reading the forum much, but if anyone has any specific questions that I didn't address, send them over and I will do my best to answer them. Cheers, John ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ System 1 - Unidisc SC, Chakra 5100, Majik 3100, (active) Majik 140 & Nordost. System 2 - Classik Movie (2005) & stand mounted Katans with Nordost. |

I was thinking for quite some time now if I should go this way too. I have my Majik 140s bi-amped right now (with a Majik 6100; I didn't care for them very much single amped. Bi-amping made a huge difference) and I am very much looking forward to finally making the next step. Your post is very encouraging... |

RE: My Majik 140's are now Active
I too have just gone active with my 140's (Majik-I plus a Majik 6100). I have found the improvement amazing - I fully agree with your description especially with regard to separation.
My only initial issue was slightly too much bass - cured by taking out 1dB on both sides - I think this could be due to far from ideal room arrangement (but it is the room where I get to listen to the most music :-) ) Regards Jon [quote=JohnNick72] Here's how I would describe the changes I hear for those of you considering this path.
