Rolleyes Worst Hi-Fi Snake Oil?
Thought I might start a thread asking for contributions to a list of the most blatant hi-fi snake oil products. Please - no cable/power supplies etc debates, that's covered elsewhere, just plain old nonsense items at big prices, and remember it's just for fun, so if your favourite tweak comes up, please don't get all upset.

So, let me kick off with the Artkustik Audio Animator Ultra £375.00 GBP

Which I think will take some beating! lol

Shunyata Dark Field Cable Elevators…
The Newest Assault on Cable Resonance and Vibration

How's this for nearly $1000:

The Blackbody is a high-tech audio accessory which greatly enhances your audio playback experience by addressing the interaction of your audio gear's circuitry with ambient electromagnetic phenomena and modifying this interplay. The Blackbody takes advantage of the quantum nature of particle interaction, and is therefore able to permeate metal, plastic, wood, and other barriers to affect the circuitry inside your components. This altered electromagnetic influence results in profoundly improved sound quality.

Hahaha!

I love that Blackbody one; I guess it was about time someone got to the bottom of all this quantum physics stuff. I wonder if they'd make an even bigger difference if you balanced them on a wee pile of these cable prop things?

As to the Animator Ultra, well, another fantastic find; I'd bet it's been designed by one of these new-age psudomedical healers. I remember someone trying to persuade me that having a crystal in the room purified your blood (I had one sitting on the floor with a small laser pointing at it; not for medical reasons; just cause it looked really cool).

Bri Big Grin

KDS/1 (music) + ADSM (AV) -> KK/1 -> 350A + miniDSP time & phase aligned 345 rear sub
KDS Renew -> Homebrew fixed attenuator -> 2250/D -> 212 and Sizmik front sub (bedroom)
MDSI -> 104C (awaiting installation in my kitchen)
MDSI -> Shahinian Arc (installed at my mum's house)

Wow! Now that's what I call salesmanship! Let's baffle the mark with a completely irrelevant ramble about 'Quantum Physics' (the wikipedia entry is, as usual, much clearer) then wave our hands about and say its best to buy three! Fantastic snake oil. Cable guides are fabulous too... I remember some US ones that were hardwood and porcelain and cost a mint - a real plus is that you don't need to know how to solder to get into 'electronics'.... any more favourites?

Gold plated optical cables. No sonic benefit whatsoever, looks nice in the marketing blurb though i guess.

Lifting cables off a carpeted floor is not snake oil. Not saying that product is any good but the there is sonic benefit to lifting the cables off a non wool floor.

OK. I'm game - what's the benefit? Did you really mean non WOOL floor? Or non wood? I know for a fact that Sound Organisation (my local dealer, wooden floors) don't do any suspended cable runs (at least in store), and I've just been to the Linn factory, and there was none of that going on in there either, in the demo rooms (carpeted floors)... I remember seeing good old thick black Linn biwire speaker cable, just like I have at home, and it just came out of the back of the speakers and down to the floor. So - convince me, S.O. and Linn why we should all be hanging our cables out like bunting! [Please give us a) the physics behind it; and b) the perceived effect.]

PS I'm really made up that my first thread has received so many hits - thanks to all and a Happy New Year!

Might not be snake oil, but if two sips take your breath away just imagine what a wee dram would do Big Grin
