m4a in DS
I've been happily using my Sneaky for some time now - sound is great. However, I like the iTunes store for ease of use when purchasing songs - leaving me with m4a's and a need to convert. Other posts on this site mention that the DS may soon be able to play m4a's directly - Is this still on the agenda. I know I could use Kinsky & Asset UPnP - but the lack of search makes it (Kinsky) less than ideal - and given Windows Media Player now plays to the DS directly (at least on Win7) - enabling the DS to play the m4a container would be excellent and avoid a lot of manual admin.

Latest DS software can play both of these formats natively, so should be able to play your downloads from iTunes without any need to transcode. If they do not play, it suggests that they are either DRM protected, or contain the 'header' information at the end of the file. |

RE: m4a in DS
I've found they play indeed! Some iTunes downloads from my daughter played through DS while waiting for CD to rip "proper" version ...

RE: m4a in DS
mmm. Interesting.
I've checked all the m4a's I have (and I have a few), and none of them play. I have Cara 4 on the Sneaky DS, and am trying to play through windows media player v12.0.7600.16415. Is there any way to check if an m4a file is correctly structured ? (nb: all the mp3 files play perfectly) - and they are definitely not m4p's. Perhaps this is something to do with the WMP setup. ? Many thanks for looking at this... |

I don't know if WMP supports native playback of AAC files (somebody with newer version of Windows may be able to answer this). To test them out you can download iTunes for Windows for free, and use that to play them on the PC soundcard |

I can listen to them using the Windows Media Player. I ripped them using "dBpoweramp CD Ripper" with AAC Nero (m4a) encoder set at 320 Kbps and FORCE LC AAC. Does anybody have any ideas / suggestions? Thanx -Mike |
