I decided to dip my toe in the water by buying a NAS, ripping my CDs and seeing how I got on before committing to buying a DS.

I use PCs everyday in my work, but I never lift the Windows bonnet and know nothing about networks. If anything goes wrong with them I call IT and they fix it. The 3 PCs in my house have been happily sharing an internet connection and a printer via a Netgear router for the last two years which I set up no problem simply by following the screen shot by screen shot instructions.

I've just spent the whole of the Christmas break reading Linn's tech documents, searching this forum and the general internet for network info, and I can't even get the PCs to see the NAS.

So, I've given up. I'd love to buy into Linn's DS but no way, not until this is plug and play out of the box.

Very, very disappointed and frustrated. Sad

I agree it has be a lot easier than it is.

You can't really blame Linn or their DS product for not getting your NAS to work. Besides, as a NAS is a hot-item these days, manufacturers tend to sell any plain old usb harddisk with some additional software as a NAS, which it clearly isn't. I agree that out-of-the-box userability could be better (while it's getting better continiously), but then again if you buy a DS though your Linn dealer and also get an (entry level) Qnap or Netgear NAS, your dealer will gladly setup a working system for you.

Which type of NAS do you have? Maybe you just bought the wrong one.
If you don't know about networks or computers and also don't wish to I would let a Linn dealer make the setup, or at least have your IT-guy make the NAS work. If you intend to get into this yourself a little bit more there is plenty information on this forum and even more people willing to help.

There's a lot of overlap with this thread (for those not already reading both...)
