Connecting a Classik to a Majik Kontrol
Hi All

For no better reason than idle curiosity I would like to do a back-back-comparison of the CD player in my 10 year old Classik, and my newer Majik CD.

To do this I want to connect the Classik as an input to my Majik Kontrol. The question is, how do I best do this?

The Classik has a preamp out, bur I guess this will be "too powerful" to use as an input to the Kontrol - wouldn't this fry my Kontrol?

The Classik has a tape out. could this be used?

Grüsse

Chris

P.s I already know that the MCD should be much better than the Classik (different generation, different price-segment), but I am interested to know how great the difference is.

You'll need to set the classik to RECORD to get tape out however you can use the preamp out of the classik.

Volume should be set to 80(on the classik!!) which is roughly unity gain and will be the same level as the majik CD. you won't fry it

Thanks Joe

The Unity gain tip is good, but are you sure this is 80(ish) on the Classik? (mine is the original) I know 80 is correct for the Majik Kontrol, but I thought the LK boxes displayed much lower numbers (e.g. I never needed to take my Wakonda - now sold- over 50).

The Classik manual is silent on the gain of the Pre-samp - but it does indicate that the tape out is Unity ("Tape output: equal to auxiliary input level (unity gain)")

Why would you want to use the Classik preamp section, it invalidates any meaningful comparison. Tape out is the ONLY way to do this.

Yeah I should have said that I would use the Tape out to do this comparison, you don't need to set it to RECORD btw .

On the vol 80 thing it's been a while but I'm pretty sure it's equivalent to the line output level but like Harry says it wouldn't be the best way to do it.

Ok, I will take the tape out option, in which case the volume on the Classik should not be important.

Thanks Joe and Harry
