Remote Volume Control for Akurate DS
Kinsky, Konductor, Songbook come with remote volume control, mute/play, on/off for the DS.
But Akurate DS needs a separate volume control when dirctly feeding my poweramp.
What would be the smartest way to solve this (I don´t have an excellent preamp available at home)?
Is there a passive Volume controller that can be connected to the ADS via RS323 cable and so receiving Vol+/Vol- commands from Kinsky?

Cheers, Frank

RE: Remote Volume Control for Akurate DS
...or maybe the dithered volume control of amarra or pure vinyl is an option for controlling Akurates volume without preamp?

Of course, then you would need a setup with a Mac(+extHD) as server and with pure vinyl or amarra installed.

Any ideas?

RE: Remote Volume Control for Akurate DS
Do you have other sources, or just the DS?

If just the DS, you could look at the Lejonklou Kikkin.

Akurate DS/Dyn > Exotik+DA/Dyn > Majik 6100/Dyn & c4200/Dyn > Aktiv Kabers, Centrik, Tukans & Sizmik 12.45
Connected with Linn Silvers & K600...and sounding great! Smile

RE: Remote Volume Control for Akurate DS
Creek make a tiny passive preamp, the OBH22 - quality wise it’s very good value for money (compared to actives) and obviously doesn’t alter the signal from the sources in any way, although needs careful cable matching to the power amp.
The mains supply gives remote volume and input switching, although of course it will work without any power at all.

RE: Remote Volume Control for Akurate DS
indeed only DS as source. Thanks for the tip.

RE: Remote Volume Control for Akurate DS
....the other option for me would be a second hand linn preamp as volume control after the Akurate DS.
As I read, the Exotik isn´t controllable via Rs 232 from the Akurate DS.

Which preamps would support RS 232 from ADS?
What would you suggest? I read about a (late) Kairn or a (late) AV5103

Btw what means "late" for these models in terms of S/N or production date?

Thanks for your opinions,
Frank

5103 was vastly improved after s/n 3276.

Main: KDS, KK, 5103, Klimax 350A's, Katan rears.

Second: Sekrit DSi running 109's in the kitchen and also connected to Akurate 212's driven by a Chakra Twin in the office.

RE: Remote Volume Control for Akurate DS
I believe that the only amps which can be controlled by a DS are:

Majik Kontrol
Akurate Kontrol
Klimax Kontrol
Kinos
Kisto

Akurate DS/Dyn > Exotik+DA/Dyn > Majik 6100/Dyn & c4200/Dyn > Aktiv Kabers, Centrik, Tukans & Sizmik 12.45

RE: Remote Volume Control for Akurate DS
I think someone on here said that you could 'trick' Konfig into thinking a vanilla Exotik is a Klimax Kontrol or summat - you select a KK or possibly AK from within Konfig and you can then use the remote volume in Kinsky or Leia or whatever.
No, I'm not mistaking Exotik +DA for the vanilla Exotik - I'm pretty sure the trick works with the latter - it will work with the +DA as that's an Akurate in everything but name.

I must get around to trying and reporting back. Maybe this weekend...

EDIT: Just done a search and it would appear that remote volume won't work - it's simply that the Exotik can be put into standby by this method.

Maple LP12/Radikal/Keel/Ekos II/Akiva/Linto
Akurate DS(D)/Nokia N800/Leia DS/Netgear ReadyNAS NV+
Exotik(D) - 3 * 2250s(D) - K600 - Aktiv Maple Espeks
STAX Signature SR404 - 006t Energiser

Hi Frank

Good news - the upcoming Cara6 release will provide both the Akurate DS and the Klimax DS with an optional internal digital volume control.

This will allow you to connect your DS directly to your power amp and control the volume via the network.
