I havent received the sneaky yet but im trying to have everything in place before i get it becaue ther is nothing worse when you are a audiophil then not being abel to get sound out of a new component.

A'ha - you have a PC - the Linn Config program (& manual) will lead the way for you - let me know if it isn't included in the retail pack. But either way you dealer should be happy to oblige.

Rik is correct.
Using the Linn config SW you should be able to set the preamp settings. (described in the manual)
After enabling the volume, you should be able to use the + and - on the Linn GUI (or handset) to control the volume.

I was told that you cant use linn gui on my nokia n800 thats why i was told to download media streamer instead??? what am i missing?.

That is correct.
The N800 uses Media Streamer to control DS. The N800 will see what ever music Twonky media report.

No, you can keep your n800 and use it to control the DS (Including the volume)

The Media Streamer application on the n800 uses standard (open) UPnP protocols to detect your music (On your PC or NAS*) and direct the DS to play given tracks.

The LinnGUI uses a UPnP extension (Which to their credit Linn have made open) to allow for playlist management (Which is lacking in the UPnP standard)

*Assuming that you are running a UPnP MediaServer application on your PCor NAS - for example Twonky.

There appears to be some confusion over the Linn DS applications. To clarify Linn provide 2 applications with the DS range

1) LinnGui which provides normal day-to-day control of DS.This is for setting up and editing playlists, Play/Pause/Stop/Seek/Volume control. The Nokia N800 MediaStreamer can be used as alternative means of operating these controls

2) LinnConfig which is a PC only application which is used for configuring your DS with your preferred settings. These include room and device names, response to IR, setup of line outputs (volume controlled or fixed), gain offset etc. These are configuration items which once setup to your preferences will rarely change, and should normally be setup by your dealer at installation.

So for normal usage (playing music), an N800 is all that is required. A PC or equivalent is only required for the initial configuration, and only then if the defaults are not to your requirements.

No, but we (http://www.plancd.com) have some software which will allow you to. It will be entering Beta testing in the next week. Drop me a line if you are interested in testing it.
