USB socket to LINN DS player
Hello,

I am sorry if this issue has been addressed before. I would like to see usb socket in DS player (like in Squeezebox Touch). Then DLNA server to Cara and voila no more network hassles with DS. Just plugin USB hard drive to DS. Anything like that coming?

RE: USB socket to LINN DS player
But ... it would not change anything. Instead of ethernet connection You would use USB one.
And there are some other shortcommings :
- You would not be able to share Your music files between different DSes inside of Your network.
- You would place sometimes noisy HD near to Your DS.
- uPnP Control Point would not help You to control the DS.
In other words, that change would destroy the whole Linn DS architecture, creating something similar to, for example, Teac WAP-XXXX devices ....

and USB sounds rubbish on every device i've tried so far Wink Definitely a good thing that they didn't include it.

Hello,

I didn't say they should get rid of ethernet connection. USB is a kind of bonus. Current wireline LAN approach is so 70's Smile.

Hi,
I am still against built-in USB interface. Prefer "pure" uPnP architecture.
From my point of view USB would add nothing positive, but increase (not too much, but increase) complexity of the DS.
If the LAN approach is too old to You, why do You use computers Tongue ?

Also the DS would then be burdened with source switching if both ehternet and USB are supported. The only advantage I see with USB support is for dealers - they could go over to a client's house and quickly get a demo going.

Before buying a DS, I too thought USB support was a missing feature. But then I realized it would be bad for the DS.

Not really, I can just take a demo kit with a spare router and NAS and have a system running in minutes. This can be left with clients if necessary, or I can just drag and drop files from my laptop (works perfectly wireless as well as wired). No need for USB.

RE: USB socket to LINN DS player
I would prefer LAN over USB or Firewire. Apart from being capable of connecting your storage devices as part of the network components to share, the LAN cable has faster speed than USB:

LAN upto 1000mbps
FW-800 upto 800mbps
USB 2.0 upto 480mbps

Which one do you prefer then?
