Conn 1337
My LP12, Ekos SE and Akiva is back home after acquiring a Conn 1337 XLR cable to feed the Clearaudio phono stage.

Derek Jenkins at Studio AV has done his usual remarkable magic on the player but even so it seems the balanced cable is a substantial advance in my rig.

Have to say at this point I'm really impressed with the Mogami mic cable running in this configuration...

...so impressed I'm wondering what it would do elsewhere in the system!

Anyway, Conn 1337 certainly gets the thumbs up from me.

RE: Conn 1337
Hi

Curiously (and very coincidentally) I was looking to try different cables between my preamp and 350a active speakers. I'm currently using Van Damme microphone cable; it was a nice price and it's a temporary run (that's been there for 3 years now). I recently did a web search to see what is on the market, and as well as looking at the Belden cable range, but I also spotted the Mogami quad microphone cable range. I see they have two quad (and shielded) types available - W2534 and W2893 - and they also have two standard balanced (and shielded) cables - W2549 and W2791 - so there are a few interesting options to look at. Not sure how their prices look and how easy it is to buy unterminated cable, but I was thinking that their standard pre-made XLR microphone cables might be another option to consider.

Brian,

The Canare star quad is also very good and available from places such as Canford. I've been running this to my A80 balanced and it is very nice. Maybe the pros know what they are about???

RE: Conn 1337
Talking of 'professional' cables; I used to use 3/8 inch 75 Ohm Cellflex between my Kairn and Klouts (which lived next to the Keltiks; they were 7.5m runs) and it was great stuff. It was tricky stuff to manage as it had a semi rigid solid copper screen with about a 50mm absolute minimum bending radius (though it terminated beautifully onto Linn phono plugs)!

It was similar to the below stuff...
