Absolutely. But "musically involving" doesn't necessarily mean "right" - ie. it can be musically involving and still have a lot of things wrong with it (that should be fixed! Smile ).

Case in point - for the first time in my life, I listened to some Quad 57s yesterday afternoon. I can see why they were such a hit back in the 60s and their gorgeous mid-range has them fans even today ... but there's no way they would make an appearance in my living room! I could not put up with their lack of top & bottom ends, compared to my true-ribbon Maggies (which are not quite as old but still over 20 years old).

(And, before anybody asks - yes, the Quads were driven by a ss amp which loves a capacitative load! Tongue )

Absolutely - that's the heart of the matter! Smile

Andy

Perhaps there's one more option; rework an RB250 (already broadly similar to the old Akito, in terms of bearing arrangement).

A new vertical pillar for the horizontal bearings will need to be made, to fit a Linn collar, complete with a DIN-outlet of course.

Perhaps hat would be even better in terms of value for money, including the cost of rebuild? Smile

Thanks, that's it (couldn't see clearly what the tube was made of but the aluminium collar gives it away).

Did like the Funked Ittok F.X; not bad, not bad at all.
