Sneaky DS Wireless? Possible?
Hiya
I am thinking about buying sneaky ds but as I understand I need to connect it to the server via lead. I 've got wirless connection at home and server & int socket is quite far away so connecting it via lead is not an option. Is there any clever way of getting around this? Maybe another router (wireless) in my room? |

RE: Sneaky DS Wireless? Possible?
I use these to connect my Sneaky to a server on a different floor:
http://www.dlink.co.uk/cs/Satellite?c=Pr.../DLWrapper Put one near the Sneaky, one near the server, connect them and you're done. It does depend a bit on your mains wiring at home but on the off-chance they don't work for you, just take them back. They tend to be more reliable for music streaming than wifi - mine work flawlessly. Hi
You can get a wireless bridge for under £40 and that should work okay*. I use one to provide connection to a Majik MDS-I in my mother's house and it works very well. Bri * The only caveat is that your wireless access point (likely part of your home router) enables SSDP traffic. This is the 'discovery' part of UPnP that enables the Linn DS to be 'found' and I've not been able to get it to fly one one particular model of wireless access point. I suspect it'll work on most though, so chances are you'll get it going okay if you end up deciding to use the wireless solution. |

RE: Sneaky DS Wireless? Possible?
I use Devolo DLAN 200 home plugs to connect my Sneaky. My router's upstairs with one of the homeplugs plugged into it and My Sneaky's downstairs with the other homeplug connected to it. It works flawlessly, I've never experienced any drop outs or other issues. They're so easy to set up too - you simply plug them into your router and Sneaky using ethernet cables and off you go.

RE: Sneaky DS Wireless? Possible?
I had a similar problem. I solved it using a D-Link "PowerLine" device. It's basically a plug and play device that's worked very well. Two units come in the box - one plugs into the wall outlet near the router and connects to the router with a standard ethernet cable (CAT 5), the other unit is plugged into the wall near my DS unit. It also has an ethernet port on it which I connect to my DS with a standard ethernet cable. It resolves the problem without running an additional CAT 5 wire. I've had 1 dropout only with a 24 bit FLAC file while a hairdryer was running - otherwise it's been great. Hope this helps.

RE: Sneaky DS Wireless? Possible?
Be aware that powerline adapters in general will not work if connected thru a surge protector, they need to be plugged direct to the wall plate. They will also not work where the two ends are on different rings which are routed thru a fuse box of the modern switch type fuse. So check out that your circuit does not have those limitations. These are generalisations, there may be some types that claim to overcome these problems.

For my setup, the only thing connected via homeplugs is the sneaky, so very little other traffic should be passing through the homeplugs anyway. It does seem to me to be a surprisingly advanced feature for homeplugs though, and I'm quite suspicious of how well they can identify and categorise traffic (my ISP try it and they sometimes cock it up) but I've really no idea how well it works.
