You might be able to do a deal with the insurance company where they give you the value of a new replacement for the 140, (£1540) and put that towards a new DSi. (£2550 - 10%) Shy

What should I be telling them is the replacement? A 2100?

And I will give the remaining LK a change single wired and see if I like - thanks for the tip

RE: LK140 gone pop - help!!
You could argue a case for a 2200 on the basis that Linn sold an entry level stereo amp (the LK85), a mid range (LK140) and a high end (Klout) which would be equivalent to 2100, 2200 and Klimax Twin!

Either way, I'd look at a second hand 5125 to replace both the dodgy LK140 and the good one. It should sound better than two LK140s, even before adding the Dynamik.

Main System: Renew DS > Exotik+DA/D > A2200/D > 242s (mk2)
& A3200/D > 106c, 104c's (using Linn Silvers & K400, on Hutter rack)

Dining Room: Sneaky DS > Majik 109s (using "K200")
Bedroom: Majik DS > Tivoli Radio Model 3 + Companion Speaker

Why would an insurance company pay out £1540 when the LK-140 can have a complete new main pcb fitted for less than 1/3 the cost ??
In my experience they will only do this if the amp cannot be repaired or the cost is over 75% of the replacement

As I said, looking at my policy it will be a repair.

Depends on the policy.

Also, didn't know that the 140 is still supported.

You could still agree to forgo the cost of the repair and get the cash to put it towards new kit.

RE: LK140 gone pop - help!!
The lk140 is supported as far as I am aware so supply of boards shouldn't be a problem!
If you can't get new boards then all might not be lost!

I have repaired a couple of lk140s at component level before (my own that a mate had borrowed to try his ninkas aktiv and you guessed it..... left the link plates in single wire config, I wasn't insured for the damage and linn wanted too much for the repair Sad ) , it was a bitch of a job, the pcbs got off lightly and were not badly scorched at all, however I had to replace all the ic's in both amps and several ancillary components that had took the brunt of the massive exess curret draw from the shorting ic's.

In the end I stopped looking for faulty components and virtually rebuilt both amps using a good one as a template!

The parts were relatively cheap but it was time consuming to say the least!

Both amps are still working flawlessly to this day but I would try and get a new board from your insurance as first port of call!

I hope all ends well for you.

RE: LK140 gone pop - help!!
Claim started - waiting to hear from the assessor. Whatever the outcome I hope I can get my sound back to where it was. I've never claimed on contents insurance before so this is all a bit new.

With the image you provided, I think your LK140 broken chips. LK140 using chip TDA7293 . You can order a new chip and replace it very easy.
Before, I ever replace the chips for LK140 success.
Wish you success.
