I've always been a pc power user but I'm weakening and considering an iMac could be better at helping me get stuff done.

Any thoughts?

I think media monkey would be a loss and also I wouldn't have two DVD drives for ripping music? I'd also miss a myriad of small software i take for granted.

I don't really want to even start with windows 8... Microsoft has lost the plot.

Also wonder if the mac experience could be a bit like the ipad.. The ipad is genius, it allows you to do 95% of the pc stuff anywhere... But there's still some stuff you need a desktop pc for... Detailed spreadsheets, web development and video editing perhaps as examples. Is an iMac in this same vein good at most stuff for most ppl but not for all?
Thanks

After doing so when I access the artist and open his folder I just get the message “invalid data returned by server” on every box where I should be seeing the CD covers. So I deleted the CD and after doing so I can see all the albums again. I have tried deleting the album again and reripping to get the same result. Any ideas?
I have had this problem before but a deletion and reripping the CD's sorted it out, not this time.

DSM competitor: AudioNET DNP

Hi,

Today I am focussed on the DSM concept. I think Linn has again hit the bulls eye with this concept. Apart from Linn's own active speakers you see more and more active speakers come on the market place, some even with DSP's and other fancy options. Speakers like Cabasse, B&M (Backes & Muller), Grimm, ME Geithain and ADAM come to mind.

It seems like the concept for the 2010-2020 era to have one integrated streaming / amplifying concept with two active speakers with room correction. One device, two speakers. I don't have it but I have to admit that I like the idea.

Most of us know about the Devialet. But of course this includes a power amplifier so not really comparable to the DSM's. For the rest I wouldn't know which device competes against Linn's fantastic DSM products. I have focussed mainly on the Akurate and Klimax segment.

Now I have found a device that looks like good competition. The AudioNET DNP.

This device has everything to be competitive with the Akurate and Klimax. With 9600 EUR the price is in between.

Stereoplay has this points category for streamer / pre-amps and here the DNP comes directly under the Klimax DSM.

This is the AudioNET website: http://www.audionet.de/

The device is packed with expensive components and the first reviews are very promising.

Here is the test from Stereoplay.
http://ebookbrowse.com/audionet-dnp-ster...d453379530

And for those of you who understand German: this is a one hour review. This guy is really positive. He is trying to find negative points but is not succeeding as it comes to sound quality. He is not too enthusiastic about the control software. That's all.

Again, a promising device!

I hope HiVi user will test this unit or the pure streaming version next to the new T&A and Marantz streamers.

Hi,

I've just replaced a Room Amp in my Knekt system with a Classik K and taken the morning to re-acquaint myself with Linstall. In the end, I ended up starting from scratch as I wanted to remap sources in the main room so it's been quite busy so far.

One problem I seem to have is that, if a go into one room where I still have a Room Amp/RCU I can select the Kudos in the main room and then select different channel presets. However, from the RCU connected to the Classik K whilst I can still select the Kudos, I do not get the oprion to change presents. The Do key simply returns 'No Fn'.

So the first questions is: Should I be able to select different presets on the Classik K/RCU for a tuner in the main room? And the second is: If 'yes' can anyone perhaps point me in the right direction?

Any help is really appreciated!

Now it is a while since I did a rambling Historic, childhood post. So I thought I would bore you once again.

I was listening the other day to my favorite Dire Straits track, Tunnel of Love from the Making Movies Album. Although I wasn't brought up in Newcastle, the story I find very evokative. In it Mark releates the story with the background of the Fun Fare at the Spanish City at Rockaway near Whitley Bay. This always brings back memories of Manchester's "Rockaway", Belle Vue.

When I was a teenager we used to catch the "53" up to Belle Vue.

Belle Vue had a fun fare that would probably fail all health and safety measures. But we used to have a great time and of course all the rides played the latest music.

It also had probably the worst Zoo in the country. It was closed down in the 60's due to animal welfare concerns. But we loved the Elephant and Camel rides.

My dad worked at Massey Ferguson in Trafford Park and they used to organise a visit to Belle Vue Circus at Xmas for the kids of their employees. We used to get a lunch and a pressie.

As I got a bit older we used to go to watch the Bell Vue Aces Speedway, have a few drinks, get covered in cinders and smell the Castrol R. Other weekends there was Stock Car racing.

Of a Saturday night it would be either the Wrestling or a trip to the Ball room to nearvously chat up the girls (but if you were going to get anywhere you needed a car to take them home).

Also had the last Flea Circus in one of the side stalls (how cruel was that?). Bearded ladies, tattood ladies, belly dancers, what excitement.

Penny arcades, bingo and all other fun items.

Oh and it never rained. I remember that clearly.

I stood and watched her walk away,
I could have caught up with her easy enough
But something must have made me stay.........

Just taken delivery of an Akurate 2200 - old style and manufactured just before the new chassis version. It's replaced my trusty Klout and is fuelling a pair of Audiophysic Virgos.
After playing the first few songs, the improvement is staggering. Everything is much more defined and the imaging is very precise.
My wife descended after her Saturday morning lie in and without seeing the new box asked me what I'd bought!!
I'm now looking at upgrading the pre-amp and possibly getting a DS. I currently have an Exotik non-DA, without Dynamik, and have been running an Ikemi, and a Hegel HD20 through it via a Macmini (USB). I can get my hands on a mint condition used Kontrol (new version) for just over 3k or an ex-dem Akurate DSM for about 4k.
I would appreciate any advice from users on the forum about which to go for.
