RE: LUMIN iPad controller app
Hi psme,

I noticed a bug in the listing of Album Artists:

I've got my Album Artists tagged using the "Lastname, Firstname" abbroach, ie if I have an artist called "Emil Gilels", I tag him as "Gilels, Emil"

LUMIN seems to use the comma to separate this artist in to two, ie. i get his albums once listed under "Emil" and then again under "Gilels".

This seems consistent across all Album Artists. I don't think the comma should be treated as an separator-field in interpreting tag-contents by LUMIN.

Thanks for re-considering this.

I understand the issue. Will need to think a solution. The reason it behavior in such way is LUMIN app works totally different than a generic controller. LUMIN does NOT browse a UPnP server tree. LUMIN will find the "Album" container of a UPnP server. Then download all the album detail. Unfortunately, when it comes to Artist info, most (if not all) server, including MinimServer, simply return a line of string of all Artist combined, in the format of:

Artist1, Artist2, Artist3...

In this case, LUMIN app doesn't know whether the artist is 1 artist in the name of "Gilels, Emil", or 2 artists of "Gilels" and "Emil".

Until there is a good solution to this issue, you can NOT use "," in artist name within a single artist.

Sorry, I can not answer this question! Please talk about the LUMIN app only! Shy

RE: LUMIN iPad controller app
I understand what you say. But as MinimServer is finally introducing support for multiple tags, this comma- separation issue should not be an issue anymore. I know that also Twonky is utilizing the comma to allow for mutiple Genre entries, but this is not an accepted tagging-standard but only a "workaround".

I believe LUMIX should take the NEW approach introduced by MinimServer so only have multiple entries if these are clearly entered as such, ie

ARTIST=Gilels, Emil
ARTIST=Oistrakh, David
GENRE=Chamber Music
GENRE=Violin Sonatas

in this example LUMIX should list Gilels and Oistrakh as the two artists in the Album and list the Album under Genre Chamber Music as well as under Genre Violin Sonatas.

Cheers

Marcus - thanks for the tip on stretching the Album art - that is a really lovely feature.

I too would love it to pick up the Linn Preamp control both volume and sources.

Really nice App - thanks very much

Does that mean that any tree structures defined in Twonky, or the multi-level dynamic browsing in Minim, will not work in LUMIN?

Does it also mean that even if a tag is added to the files, supported in Twonky/Minim, it would also need to be added to LUMIN before it could be used?

Hi

Assuming so, I can see that as a problem for some. For example, though I have my AlbumArtist tags populated, I now use Ensemble instead of AlbumArtist (I've configured MinimServer not to show it as an available container in the tree). I do that because Ensemble enables me to use more than one value per album (which is really useful) and also because it maintains Sonos compatibility (last time I checked, Sonos recognises Ensemble, but not AlbumArtist).

This does look like a really cool CP, but for me, it would need to use the media sever tree as opposed to interpreting the container zero information (like Songbook 11 does). Songbook 11 was changed such that once you get over a certain quantity of albums, it changes behaviour to use the trees as opposed to the container zero information. That was done to enable folks to use alpha-grouping (which I've always used with Twonky, and I now also use with MinimServer) so that's maybe something to ponder going forwards.

Kind regards
Briain

PS As an example, I've just tagged Walter Becker - Circus Money as the below:

AlbumArtist=Becker, Walter
Ensemble=Becker, Walter
Ensemble=Steely Dan

KDS/1 (music) + ADSM (AV) -> KK/1 -> 350A + miniDSP time & phase aligned 345 rear sub
KDS Renew -> Homebrew fixed attenuator -> 2250/D -> 212 and Sizmik front sub (bedroom)
MDSI -> 104C (awaiting installation in my kitchen)
MDSI -> Shahinian Arc (installed at my mum's house)

RE: LUMIN iPad controller app
Bri, I agree. The tag-handling approach of LUMIN needs some rethinking in order for it not to end up in a cul-de-sac like Songbook 11. That would be a pity because as I said this App really has a huge potential! But as psme says, its only version 1.0.1....

RE: LUMIN iPad controller app
As an fellow app developer I must applaud the approach take - that is not to use the standard media server tree but to grab the lot & post process - certainly makes a lot of sense. If I were the developer I'd be inclined to keep it pretty much as-is (ie. tied to Minimserve) as otherwise they are likely to get into the "it doesn't work with my media server" arguments.

Perhaps there is scope for a better media server protocol, but that's another story.
