Okay, one last one:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_Q...henticated

MQA is lossy.
Please refrain from posting otherwise.

I will not because that is not the whole story.Tongue

To be clear, MQA encodes the data relevant to human hearing losslessly (and far more of it than has been thought necessary in the past). Other data not relevant to human audio discrimination are discarded by the MQA encapsulation in a lossy manner.

If you get very technical hires files are lossy too since they do not cover the entire hearing spectrum. DSD does that better.

Saying that MQA will not sound better than CD 16/44.1 because of what you read on wikipedia does not make sense.

I enjoy my hires music but can allso say some very well produced/mastered cd quality music sounds better, it all depends on the source. But when experts go on record saying that mqa sound very good and certainly better than cd quality I will not argue with them based on wikipedia information.

MQA Hi Res and ROON - wouldn't that be something

Yeah. Like a chocolate teapot.

I sense some people are opposed to the idea of new and possibly better codecs and services which are becoming more and more mainstay in the established audio world. It would be nice to have the possibilty to run Roon and play MQA. Why be against that? When you don't want those possibilties you can decide not to use them.

RE: Tidal Goes Hi-Res with MQA
Concern is, and it is only a concern as I have no evidence, that if MQA takes hold, and the music rights holders can somehow use it to implement DRM and effectively license all downloads as well as streams, it might mean the end of the legal production and sale of any other 'lossless' format, hires or otherwise, that can be played anywhere.
Scaremongering or slippery slope? You decide... Wink

I prefer to put it another way. If you already subscribe to Tidal HiFi it is free.

I know it's a bit crazy and radical but didn't you ought to hear it before discounting it?

Not suggesting for a minute that I disagree with the assertions but makes more sense to have a listen first before picking sides I reckon.

The dilemma for most on here is that you can't do it at home on a Linn DS Big Grin .

I never have nor will be on or use facebook. If an artist or business has it as there only resource of info then needs must but other than that...

I'm very much in two minds about amazon. I miss my local shops sometimes and so many empty ones isn't pretty. Most seem to end up as coffee shops. Upshot is it's hard to find anything locally to touch and feel and try out nowadays, so amazon and the like are often the only option. But then again, there are many things that would have been very difficult to source before but are now within easy reach. Such as them ol' plastic plates!

Google - well, it's a good search engine. All the rest... take it or leave it. How they got so rich just when it was a search engine amazes me. Kudos to them.

The George Orwell concern - THAT is another matter. We've already had RIPA, next is the "snooper's charter". Too depressing so I will follow Tin's example...

Just my point.
Or like someone once said: without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.

Just being connected to the internet makes you a product, don't be fooled otherwise. You wonder how Google makes money? Through you it does. Too late to be depressed about it.
I would like hear MQA because of how it sounds and how it improves my music listening. Roon for my overall music experience. Nice if Linn makes it possible, if not I'm happy with the way it works and sound now but that was not the topic of this thread.
