Hmm. I wonder whether it will. And the upgrade price for the EBox-I would be less, so if it's coming it may be worth waiting 12 more months rather than change to Akurate next year.

As the change to Akurate would involve buying eight channels of amplification, that sounds to me like a risk (that there will not be a Katalyst Exaktbox-I) worth taking. In the meantime, you could of course trade in your AEDSM fot a KEDSM without foreclosing on your options ... Smile

Somehow I doubt that that would be the best price/value upgrade possible for Timster, although the experiment would be interesting.

It's more a matter of what I could afford. The Akurate + amps upgrade is out of my reach in the short-medium term, unless something drastic for the good changes, and would have to be a long-term aspiration rather than achievable aim at the moment. More likely I could afford to upgrade Majik to Kat if it were to happen though.

It is in any case possible that Majik with Katalyst will out-perform today's Akurate, and in the Akurate configuration the amps are, from your perspective, an expensive necessity rather than the key driver of sound quality. The Exaktbox-I has to be the best value option in the Exakt ecosystem, and sticking with it if you can makes a lot of sense. Now if I hadn't gone and bought 5-way speakers ...

The EBox-I is cheaper than 8 channels of Majik amplification on it's own.
Never quite figured that one out, no doubt the amps are slightly compromised, but still it makes it extremely good value. If those amps could be used with an external EBox, that would make a Kat Akurate EBox more viable. But they can't Sad

RE: Katalyst Majik DSM
I might be wrong, but I can't recall a precedent for Majik level upgrades.

If there is a Kat version of anything in the Majik range, it seems more likely to be a new purchase than an upgrade.

Yep, never really understood why the connections on the back of the Ebox-i are facing in the wrong direction, particularly for a "source first" company.

That's interesting. Good to know, and you're probably right given the price point.

Not quite. The pricelist does show a number of Majik upgrades.

Yes, you're right Tin - DSi to DSM and the addition of Exakt links as examples. Could be possible then. I wonder if they've only been functional upgrades or if they included some sonic benefits.
