Latest upgrade - Kandid - Urika - Radikal and a question
So I bit the bullet having visited the dealer to listen to a Radical to replace my Lingo 2. Came away with all of the above.

Outstanding is all I can say, outstanding.

However I've got a query - why does the Kandid have a sticking plaster on it Smile I'm guessing it's coil tape ?

To prevent dust on the coil, I suppose. All Lyra cartridges use the same. Looks like rice-paper.

Nice pics, by the way.............

Many MC cartridges have a variation on that theme. Keeps crap out of the generator.

Makes sense but seems strange that they don't extend the plastic to cover it completely then.

Everybody believes that naked MC's sound better. My findings have been that they are probably correct.

An example at the cheap end where differences are audibly greater.

Both these cartridges have the same guts. They however sound very different.

Having seen photos of the crap that found its way into my Dynavector XV-1T, even with clean records (RCM) , thank your lucky stars Linn put the fabric membrane there to keep the crap away from the generator pole pieces. It will extend the life of the cartridge enormously.
